My lo was 2 in August and we still use a high chair. She can sit at a table when we go out for lunch etc... as she's big for her age and some of the cafe ones are too small. She's not at a comfortable height though and I thought if I use a booster seat can she easily get up herself?

I'll be weaning her brother in a month or two and imagined she'd be out of it before he needed in, there's no room for two high chairs at the table.

What has anyone else done?

my youngest hasnt used a highchair at home since about 15 months. She sits at the small table and chairs with her sisters. Would that be an option for you? Its great for us because they can do other activities at the table too.

My dd is 15m and we are thinking of introducing a small table too

She does have a little table she has snacks at occasionally and colours in on but I'd rather she sat at the table with everyone else.

Thanks for the suggestion though

My daughter sits in a booster seat at the table and has done for at least 6 months, if not longer. She can climb up herself but tbh I tend to lift her up and strap her in.

My ds used a high chair until he was 2 and we switched him to a booster with straps no problem

DD2 has a booster seat thing at the table, she can't get up there herself but she couldn't get into her highchair herself either. She can climb down. She wouldn't sit properly in her highchair, she kept climbing out and making a massive fuss about being strapped in. She's 15 months and she's been in the booster seat since about 12 months.

My two oldest still sit in a booster chair and my youngest in a high chair! They also have a small table from ikea which they sometimes sit at

My 3 year old has one of the junior dining chairs from ikea. It's like a Normal chair just higher so he's better positioned. My 18 month old can easily get up and down from it too so we are getting him one soon.

Thanks, I'll take a look.

She can climb in and out herself (as well as most of our other furniture!) I just click the tray on after.
I'll give the booster seat a go thanks everyone.

Now to persuade her that her brother is allowed to go in her old chair!

Violet was using her high chair at 2. I can't remember exactly when we stopped using it, but I switched to a booster when the neighbors gave us their booster seat which she used for a while. I don't remember if the switch happened before Leo was born or after. I tried to do it a good bit before he would be using it so that she didn't feel like he was taking it from her. She still wanted to use it though when she saw him in it.

We have just started sitting our 16 month old at the table. He is rather small (and looks totally cute peering over) but he manages. A booster seat would be great and be a nice 'wow look at what you have now' moment to convince her to give the high chair to her brother x

I wish my daughter wanted to sit in the highchair still. She stopped using it at 14-15 months and went to a booster and sometimes refuses to use that. Instead she wants my lap or to sit like a big girl in a chair by herself lol

DS used a high chair until he was 2 full time, and until he was 3 off and on (small guy). Wetried a booster but he just went straight to regular chair. I miss the high chair as he has problems leaving the table randomly, lol.

We stopped the high chair at 18 months with DS1 as he would scream and kick whenever we took him near it. He sat at the dining table or his little toddler table and chairs thereafter.

We have just stopped putting DS2 in the high chair the last two days for the same reason only he screamed more than DS1 did to the point where he hasn't been able to settle down to actually eat anything while sitting in it.

So they both had dinner with me at the dining table and it was lovely!

Hi, we used a cheap booster from Argos this one -https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9077364
until recently for my just turned 3 year old, he uses the higher ikea chair now like his sister. Both are good, I liked that I could strap him into the booster! But he was able to get himself out in the end so had to move to the ' big boy chair' lol

I ended up buying one of the junior chairs from ikea, she liked it at the shop and could get up ok. I haven't assembled it yet as we need to see where it's going once the Christmas tree comes down but I'm hoping it works out. Thanks for the suggestion!

I will miss having her strapped into the high chair though, it has its uses

Chair wise I would move my 20 month old to a dining chair with a booster seat as he's plenty big enough but every time we try him at the table he turns into a monster and throws all his food onto the floor :growlmad:

Probably from about 2, we switched to a junior chair (we got ours from IKEA, it matches the other chairs at our dining table, but if you aren't bothered, I'm sure you can find them lots of places). She still had to sit on a cushion or pile of books because she was too short (9th centile in height, so really small for her age), but that worked great. She's about to turn 4 and we still use it.
