Either books I can read to her or ones she can read herself. We have Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton and lots of others but she's getting a bit old for many of them. I'd like to restock a bit for her birthday and nurture this love she has of reading.

My 6 year old enjoys Enid Blyton Secret 7, The Worst Witch and Winnie the Witch books. She also enjoys reading non fiction. She has a kids atlas, times tables book and enjoys reading about animals.

Do you know what, I hadn't even considered non fiction. She would love that.

My pals daughter has loved the 'Lemony Snicket' books, her mum read her a couple and she asked for the box set for Christmas and is reading them herself (she's now 8 but they got the first one when she was 6). My son loved the 'How to train Your Dragon' series - there's some great characters and from a couple of books in a brilliant girl 'Camicazi' - heir to the Bog Bugler Tribe (the books are very different from the animated series)

My DS loves the 13 Storey tree house series, they are long books but don't have many words per page so he gets through a chapter quickly which is really motivating. They are some of the few books he's ever read voluntarily!
