What can I expect at my 20 week scan?

I have my scan on Tuesday, and besides hopefully being able to find out the gender I was just curious what else do they do/look for?

They look at everything! The.brain, the heart, spine, belly, kidneys, arms, legs, facial features, everything gets measured and checked over to ensure bubs is healthy. Also dont be alarmed ifyou are requested.back for more pictures on something. It just means that they couldnt.get a.clear enough.picture at that time!

It's an in depth scan of the baby to check for any conditions.

If you're in the UK on the NHS they typically look for markers for 11 different conditions (anencephaly, spina bifida, cleft lip, gastroschisis, trisomy 13, trisomy 18, cardiac abnormalities.. and I can't remember the other 4). They might also be able to spot other conditions such as trisomy 21 but they isn't what they are specifically looking for. If they do spot anything they will refer you for another scan and consultant appointment and possibly a diagnostic test because ultrasound is ONLY screening not diagnostic for most conditions.

the other conditions they look for are diaphragmatic hernia, bilateral renal agenesis, lethal skeletal dysplasia and exomphalos

they are looking for any abnormalities, and growth and gender..

Heehee, its okay. I am a bit nervous though cause i havent felt anything i can say was baby for sure. So im excited but also nervous! My uterus is where it should be i believe so that makes me feel a tad better. I guess my bean is just stubborn lol.
