Hi Ladies - I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant and need some help in finding out what I should buy.

I'm planning on trying to breastfeed but also want to express atleast once a day so my hubby can also do a feed. It looks like I'll be back at work after 6 months maternity leave, so will need to use bottle feeding then anyway, even if I express.

I haven't brought anything yet but have been looking at the Avent baby box. I can't seem to get the link to work, but it's from Babies R us and costs £59.99.

Do I need all of this?? I'm worried incase I can't breastfeed, but really want to give it a good shot. What do you ladies think I need to buy and what have you brought/used??

Thanks :hugs: x

Are you planning on expressing at work?

Will you BF baby on evenings and weekends, but give bottles while at work, or bottles all the time past 6 months?

It isn't recommended to express or use a bottle before 6 weeks, so you could wait till 6 weeks and see if you are getting on with breastfeeding then.

I'm planning on breastfeeding as much as possible til I go back to work. I must admit, I hadn't thought about the need to express at work...
When I go back to work, I was hoping to BF at evenings and weekends, if practical, but again I'm not sure how the little one will like swapping between the 2....

I would get a breastfeeding pillow. I had a boppy and loved it. Some Lansinoh cream is also great for if you get sore.

I would wait till after 6 weeks to pump. There are sooo many different kinds of pumps, that you just have to decide how much pumping you want to do. I was not a big pumper so I just had a little hand pump, and it was fine for if and when I needed it. See if your hospital has a rental program and you can try different ones.

As for bottles, well that is a hard one, because there are so many different kinds, and you don't know which one your LO will like.

Here's a good thread to read.....;)

Thanks for your replies ladies - I have decided that for now, I will not purchase anything. I 100% plan on breastfeeding and as I now know that you should express or bottle feed within the first month, will make a decision on what to buy after a few weeks of breastfeeding, after seeing how I get on.
I'm sure I will be back to this group for somemore advice soon :)

Get as much help as you can in the first few weeks your job is just to breastfeed x
Good idea to wait a bit before you buy loads you both need to practice first lol!!
I have a freind who gave me a manual breast pump,(i've not used it yet but I have it if I need it) it may be worth seeing if anyone of your mates has old stuff they can give you at least then you get to try before spending loads.

I have got Lanisoh cream its the best and tons of breast pads and and the mo two good bras and muslins (mostly to clean us both after).
Hope it all goes well for you:hug:

Breastfeeding didn't work out for me at first, but Boots are open every day, and in the worst case you can just do what I did and send someone out to pick up bits and pieces as you need them! If I'd have had formula and bottles in in the early days, I think I might have given in and used them at a weak moment. I'm glad I didn't have them, as it meant I stuck with it, and we are now feeding successfully!
