Following on from mummy to be's thread- "how organised are you" it's got me thinking about what I need to get/buy to be ready for when baby comes.

What is everyone planning on buying/borrowing/getting out from the loft!

Experienced mummies/mommies What are the essentials? And what would you not bother buying this time?

This is my first baby and I really don't have a clue, I don't even know how many babygrows/ onesies I need!

Please help me start a list! Thank you! :hugs:

I would say you need:
car seat
Crib
Rocking chair/lazy boy
Dresser
Bassinet
stroller
high chair
Walker/bouncer
Bumble
Receiving blankets (can't ever have too many of those)
Clothes
Diapers
Wipes
Socks
No scratch mittens
Play pen
Diaper rash cream
Baby bath tub
Wash cloths
Towels
baby wash
shampoo
Soft bristle hair brush
Nail clippers
Thermometer
Infant tylenol/ ibuprophen
first aid kit
Pacifiers???(incase you choose to use them)
toys
Safety gates
Cabinet and drawer latches
Bottles
bottle brush
Spoons bowls
There is more im sure.
And you obviously won't need ALL of these things right away. But it is good to have them on hand instead of rushing to the store to buy them.

Things I'm getting now:

Crib + Mattress
Stroller (Double)
Car seat
Blooming Bath (we have DD's od bath but we want to try sink bathing :) )
Clothes from 0-12 months (We needed to buy all boy clothes since we only have girl clothes)<-- most will be used
Diaper Bag (I want a new one, lol)
Diapers in sizes Newborn, 1, 2 and 3 (I'll probably buy the boxes at Costco)
Wipes (box from Costco)
Moby Wrap (Bought used)
Swaddle Blankets (Aden+Anais, instead of regular receiving blankets)
1-2 thick blankets
Car seat canopy (awesome for winter babies)
Sheets for the crib
Swing (buying used)
Gym for tummy time

Some things I'm not bothering with this time around: towels and wash clothes I'm just using what I have.

High chairs, and feeding I'll buy later when he starts eating solids. Unless something is on sale for a good price I'm only buying things I need when baby arrives and for his first months :)

Jzgrace and anaconda thank you so much! They are brilliant lists, you have really helped me, I'm going to start a list now.

Anyone else? Anything you think is a waste of money or an absolutely essential item?

Those are great lists! Actually reminded me of things I need to add to my own. I just have a few things to add :)
For when baby decides they don't want to be swaddled anymore(DS did this pretty early on) I would suggest sleep sacks! My sister bought me a couple for DS and I loved them.
Also
Burp rags
Nasal Aspirator(I would suggest finding one that can be easily cleaned, or get lots of them. The bulb syringes can get nasty inside)
Teethers
I also recommend long sleeve onesies with the little fold over mitts. DS always ended up flinging his scratch mitts off.

You also don't want to forget about things for yourself. Depending on whether you are breastfeeding or not:
Breast pump and accessories
Nursing bra
Breast pads
Lansinoh(loved this with DH!)

There actually is a great list here: https://www.todaysparent.com/checklists/newborn-checklist/

We hated the moses basket, love the moby wrap and sleeping bags. Never used scratch mits.
Used hundreds of muslin cloths, didn't use bibs except the bandana style dribble bibs.
We used a lamb skin for laying him on, also couldn't do without a bouncer or swing and the baby gym.
We didn't have a baby Bath. Baby towels were crap.
Xx

Thanks for all the lists! First time parents here and we needed this.

I'm a first timer and I did a list and broke it down,
I listed:
Things for first in hospital
Things to take baby home
Things needed for sleeping
Clothes need as essentials for first months or two (u will get given loads and u don't no what size ul need, although it's good to have a variety and always a few things of the next size up)
Things for getting out and about
Things for visiting family (ours live far enough away that we would have to stay over)
Things for feeding
Things for cleaning/bathing
Things for keeping warm (il be having a winter baby)
Things that would he nice to have for later (in this I included things like play gym etc)

I'm sure there were more but doing it that way I found I made a list of absolute essentials not just would likes and anything else I get is stuff I see and like

Something else to keep in mind, you may want to try tshirts and pants for baby until umbilical cord falls off. This varies for many parents but I found that tshirts or sleepers (not onsies) were best for baby until cord falls off!
and you really truly can never have enough receiving blankets! Mine were used for everything from blankets to burp cloths and rags.

Thanks everyone, these lists and tips are so helpful! :flower:

And don't forget stuff for urself like breast pads and sanitary towels etc

I remember getting ready for my first born! Such an exciting time! I would say you can't go wrong with the bare essentials..... Everything else can wait. So diapers, wipes, food source, clothes. If you breast feed get yourself a good nipple cream now and loads of nursing pads and towards end of third tri get a good Nursing bra.

Since you're in the UK (and sorry if this is an obvious one!) sign up for all the baby clubs - with Boots, Tesco, Sainsburys, Pampers etc. You'll get loads of freebies especially nappies and wipes and vouchers etc. Just make sure you use an email address which you don't mind getting loads of junk to...

Thanks everyone and great tip conina I've just been on and signed up to a whole load of baby clubs now, looking forward to my freebies!
