Do you only refer to your parents brothers and sisters as aunts and uncles or do you use the term with thier OH as well?

Iv always called my uncles wife my aunt, iv never realy questioned about if that was right or wrong but my OH just calls his, his uncles wife.
He says she isnt his aunt because she isnt his parents sister which yes is tecnicaly right but I just cant see myself refering to my side as anything other then "my aunt and uncle"

Does that even make sense?
I suppose it would be different if they where recently married, I think maybe he was about 17 when they got married but my side was married before I was born.

I'd say my uncles wife is my aunt.

I refer to my best friends as aunty Lucy to river.

For me it's brother, sister and committed partners/spouses. Dh has dropped the Uncle and Aunt bit from most of his now.
Not entirely the same but my sil refused to refer to my dh as my niece and nephews uncle on cards etc until we were married even though we'd been together for 6 years and had two children together.

As Ive grown up I've always called my aunties/uncles partners aunts/uncles.

However my aunt remarried recently and i find it hard to call him uncle, in fact i dont wish too, it doesnt seem right.

Alex has got one auntie whos NOT family and thats my best mate. I cant be doing with people who self claim to be aunties to alex :s

yep both uncle and aunt to me, although i dont find myself calling one of my 'aunts' aunt as i remember her marrying my uncle, the rest were all married before i was born

btw i call my aunts and uncles by their first names, do you girls?!

I don't like people calling Rich's brothers fiance Caitlyn's aunt but I think that's just because I don't like her

Yeah, they'd be Aunt and Uncle to me. Although now that I'm older I don't address them as "Aunt So and So" and "Uncle Such and Such". I just use first names now. Although when introducing them its "This is my Aunt So and So" etc.

:flower:

Yeah they'd be Uncle and Aunt to me. I've also got some of my parents friends who I used to call Auntie and Uncle so-and-so, although now that I'm older I just address them by their first name.

I class my parents bothers/sisters and their partners Aunts and Uncles..tho i have droope the Aunt/Uncle bit and JUst 1st name them..my DS1 calls my Brother just by his 1st name as theres not a huge age gap between them..but i dont refer to myself as Auntie to any of my OHs nieces or nephews.. :os

I dont call them uncle such and such any more but if I was intraducing them I would say this is my uncle such and such.
It realy upset me when OH kept saying he wasnt my nephews uncle because he wasnt his sisters kid even though we had been together long before he was born, maybe its because none of his aunts are married and his uncle only got married 12 years ago.
His sister is an odd one as well, she refuses to be called aunty, I always though of it as a very respectable affectionate title.

When we were first together we didn't call DH my nephews' uncle though I was their Aunt. Since getting married he is though. If someone is married or committed then I would call them by the term. If they were new or the blood relative tended to be in and out of relationships then I wouldn't.

Fair enough but we where engaged and had been together 2 years before he was born and 9 years later he still would class himself as such.

Yeah I would call them my aunt/uncle!

My OH's nieces and nephews call me aunt Laura even though we're not married. and to be honest I would prob be upset if they didn't xx
