My baby was breastfeeding on demand but is now onformula. He had a 4 oz bottle - the recommended for his weight and still seems hungry.. Is it ok to give him more?

Yep give him as much as he wants hun, you can't overfeed him and the amounts on the tin are just a guide. Fran went on 4oz bottles at 1wk old and 5oz bottles at 3 weeks old - we always fed on demand too xxx

Thanks I wasn't sure as on the tin it seems pretty strict on amounts. Also it says he shud have five bottles a day is it ok to give more if he's hungry

Yes its totally fine; the amounts on the tin are just a guide (and it does usually say this but often in the 'small print') xx

My lo has never had anything like the amounts suggested on the formula tub, either in number of bottles per day, or amount per bottle. It is a guide, a starting point but you just feed on demand, give your baby as much as they like per bottle, and feed again when they are hungry. Babies rarely overfeed, just go with the flow and don't worry about the feeding guide.

Fran always had 6 bottles per day - sometimes 7 if she was going through a growth spurt!

My baby's been on 8oz feed for god knows how long and he's only 3 months! If they want to eat feed them. Don't worry on what u 'should' be feeding them! Babies are all so different

We never stuck to the amounts! J was a very hungry baby and sometimes was on 10x 8oz bottles a day, this was at 3 months old so too early for weaning, we had no other option but to feed him more milk x

Yes give him more if he needs it. Babies don't overeat. When they are done they do let you know and if they get too much they spit it up anyway. The amounts that are given are just guidelines but not really to be followed strictly. Every baby is different.

I swear my daughter would keep eating pahaha! Just had another 6oz bottle after having a 6oz just over 2hours ago, growth spurt that I keep hearing about I hope!

We've never stuck to it. My son takes 3-4oz every 3-4hours which works out to 7-8 bottles a day. If he is still hungry I offer another oz.

my lo had 12 bottles a day for 2 weeks he fed 1-2oz every 2 hours lol only now hes on 5 bottles but has anything from 6-8oz box says just 6 it's funny how they change

You can ABSOLUTELY overfeed your baby. The reason why breastfed babies are smaller is because they have to work more to eat. Bottles are much easier and a baby can consume much more milk at a faster rate. There is a HUGE epidemic of obese children. This is the first generation where a parents life expectancies is higher then their children due to obesity related illnesses. 10 x 8 oz bottles is absolutely ridiculous!!!!! 80 ounces?? That is insane! Your doctor should give you good guidelines as to how much to give your baby. A breastfed baby can not be overfed. A bottle fed baby most definitely can. I'd be curious to see how many of the above posters have overweight children. Be smart about your babies health and follow the guidelines of your pediatrician...
