What do you make of this?

PeauntBean- we do, yes. There is at least one Jewish lady on this site I know of, and probably more. :)

freckleonear- From an academic theological perspective, Muslims, Jews and Christians do in fact worship the same god; I'm not arguing with your beliefs or trying to be disrespectful, but it seems that the belief that Muslims worship a different god tends to stem not from a fundamental understanding of Christianity or monotheism, but from a fundamental misunderstanding of Islam (and often, sadly, from a long-standing prejudice that Islam is "too different" to be a related faith).

Okay here's a quick explanation.

Of course there are no quotes in the Bible saying that Allah is not the same as Jehovah, for the simple reason that Islam wasn't founded until 500 years after the last part of the Bible was written. Although there are several similarities, there are also significant differences between the deities described in the Bible and the Quran. For instance, Muslims believe in a monotheistic god while Christians believe in a trinitarian God. Christians believe that Jesus was God's son whilst Muslims do not. Therefore we cannot believe in the same God without denying our own essential beliefs! However, Christianity and Judaism are basically the same, the only big difference being that Jews believe the Messiah hasn't yet come and Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah.

PeanutBean - hubby and I are both part Jewish, but that's not much use as we're Christians!

OK not read whole tread but the Whole menu, so that means the likes of my kid who is not muslim has to eat it to? Thats not very fair. part dedicated is ok that would be fair to all.

Why don't you think it is fair?

Jews also dont believe that Jesus is God's son. They believe that he's a prophet sent by God like muslims. We also believe that Massiah will come before the end of this world but he's the same Jesus who was here before.

I will not comment more, as this issue is too sensitive, but I have lots of Christian friends & they all believe that we share the same God. xx

Hun, before u comment, read the whole thread, I dont think u even know the difference between halal & non-halal meat xx

I am learning and dont fancy reading the whole thread. I see hala meat is animals slaughters by cutting the throat thats upset many animal activists. Why should every kid eat that? why cant poeple who are not muslim say they want a different menu for their kids? whats wrong with sharing the menu? I thought that was fair. Or what have I got wrong? I except i could be wrong as I have never heard of hala meat but thats the way I see it so do correct me.

reading a bit back here and I can see the hala way is meant to be more humane? then why has it been called unhumane? confused!

There is sth against Islam in general. Jews for example slaughter the same way like muslims, but I guess finger pointing to Islam always spice up things & makes it more argumentative.

Agreed. It seems some people (in society in general, not this forum in particular) like to think that Muslims 'enjoy' brutality and that anything they do is inherently violent or barbaric. The ignorance is shameful!

Muslims are peace loving people and not these barbaric morons that crappy tabloid newspapers make them out to be. In response to the holy trinity it is a religious innovation because in the 10 commandments it says there is only one God and do not worship false idols. Jesus does not claim to be God so it is actually blasphemous to call Jesus God. Christians are meant to believe he is the son of God not actually God. & holy ghost? What on earth is that supposed to be another innovation methinks. The way it is described in the Bible is meant to be the attributes of God and not another form of God.

As I understand it in practise Islamic cultures are as varied in the differen countries as Christianity is, perhaps more so. Past conversations with my mum (who is my fount of all knowledge) have suggested that some are the negative practices associated with Islam are really a geographical thing. For example female circumcision is mostly practiced in African Muslim countries I think and not so much others. And of course not all Muslim women wear burkhas, certainly there mist be far more Muslim women in this country than is represented by the, i think 3 women in burkhas I've ever seen in Manchester.

It would be interesting to hear how Jews feel about Christianity I think. I was amused to read a short time ago that Ed Miliband is apparently a Jewish atheist. I'm not sure how that works! Perhaps it's allowed because of the lack of a true settled geographical home for the Jews? So more like saying a British atheist than a Christian atheist which would make no sense.

It's really nice to talk around this subject without too much stepping on toes. I'm not really religious these days but I from an historical and anthropological perspective I'm very interested in people's cultures.

Female circumcision is cultural and not Islamic its against Islam.

That's what I said really but people associate this sort of thing with Islamic culture. I'm not saying it's correct.

& Jews have kosher which is the same as halal & christians are not supposed to eat pork but do!

why do you keep bringing up Christians?

Obviously i can't speak for hannaaisha but i think it's relevant in the argument that theae aren't just islamic traditions or 'rules'. If people want pork served pork in schools for example, and say we are a christian nation, then pork wouldn't be served iyswim?

It would be relevant... if it was true. Jews do not eat pork because they are still bound by the Old Testament rules, Christians are not so they can eat anything they want (apart from halal ). See Mark 7, Acts 10, Acts 15, Romans 14, 1 Corinthians 10, Colossians 2.

I think faith schools are great but the POPE don't get ME started!!

just wondered what that was to do with hala meat? And why is all else ok except Catholics? not that I am a fan of the pope myself only it seems you have singled out Catholics here and I dont get why.
