So not quite reached due date but when I saw my midwife today and said I'd had 5 bloody shows in last 48 hours she said she wanted to do a sweep if I was ok with it, so I said yeh sure
It went really well, didn't hurt, just uncomfortable
I was 2-3cm dilated
Cervix central, soft and thin (very stretchy she said!)
75% effaced
and she could feel his head!!!

What do you think, labour soon???

That was at 11 am and since Ive been for a long walk and cleaned the bathroom. Just feels very heavy 'down there' and pressure

Oh and she predicts he may be around the 9lb mark, eek!!!

UPDATE:
Woke at 1:30 am with bright red mucous, still have it whenever I wipe, called labour suite as I was a bit worried by the amount but they said it was normal. So I'm now waiting for labour pains to start....been getting very irregular tightenings accompanied with mild pain. Hope so much it's the start

UPDATE 2
Been having what I think are contractions since 11pm, started at 20 mins apart, now averaging 5-6 mins apart (so now been about 5 hours since things kicked off). The pains are what I'd describe as very sharp painful period pains along with strong tightenings. I'm still coping well though and havent called hospital yet. See how far I can go. Reeeeeeally hoping this is the beginning and I'll have my boy very soon!
Now 7 am, called delivery at 6 am and said i was coping fine still so they said stay at home as long as possible till i can't cope anymore or waters go. Come on contractions! carry on coming

UPDATE 3
contractions eased off completely by 8am, gutted! awake throughout the night for nothing....had the odd contraction today but so irregular, feeling really fed up hope things pick up again tonight or my waters break or something to give me hope!

Omg 3cm dilated go u and u r not in pain? definatley labour either late 2nyt or early morning, good luck 2 u when i was 3 cm dilated i was in bloody agony Xx

Hi there, hope bubba comes soon for u. I had sweep yesterday and she didn't tell me any of the above, just that baby was low down and mine was so painful, so now i'm thinking maybe baby isn't ready yet I've had mild period pains all day today and pressure, the same as u. I hope my baby comes soon, urs sounds like its on its way...good luck x

I also had a sweep yesterday at 40 +1 midwife seemed very pleased said my cervix was over 1 cm dilated soft central and could feel the baby's head she said it was a very easy sweep to perform and that i should go into labour within the next 24 hours or so....i'm still waiting no bloody show or anything just cramping period like pains which i was having anyway prior to sweep. I didn't even think the sweep felt uncomfortable. I am just fed up waiting now tried allsorts my daughter was born at 36 + 5 so i have gone almost a month more with this pregnancy. Hope baby arrives soon!

Im going to suggest this, as it worked for me!

Warm bath with radox (Musucle relax one, small % of castor oil in)
Long walk, curry & chips from the chippy.
Bounce on birthing ball
& finally sex!

I was 2cm at sweep on friday. Did all this on sat she arrived sun morning.

Haha i've just had a sweep and they said 2cm but not sure if i'm going to be as commited as you have done the sex thing but feel like am raping my husband and i'm this big whale bouncing on top of him!!!

Haha i've just had a sweep and they said 2cm but not sure if i'm going to be as commited as you have done the sex thing but feel like am raping my husband and i'm this big whale bouncing on top of him!!!
