What do you think of this name? (girl)

Our first child is called Laurana which is not a very common name and is actually not found in most baby name books, so we want a more unusual name for this baby girl too.

We are thinking of Kirima which is actually an Eskimo name meaning high aspirations, but I am worried about what it would be shortened to - Laurana can go to Laura though at the moment most kids call her Rana as they cannot pronounce the rest. Adults however call her the full name "Laurana" and no one has shortened it to Laurie which I thought might happen.

Someone I told today said Kirima sounded like a type of ice cream or a brand of car - so whatever you think is fine. I just want opinions, good or bad.

It's not to my personal taste, but i don't think it sounds like icecream etc. Its not way out in a horrible way but yes it is certainly unique so meets your wants.

I would probably shorten it to Kiri if i knew someone with the same name.

I knew a girl (still do ) called Kirianne and she was always called by her full name so maybe your little girl would be too! Kirima is very pretty, is it said how it's spelt? xx

Yes - it is said like it is spelt, (Ka-ree-ma) apparently it can also be Indian in origin meaning "hill child" or North American meaning "undulation"

It's different... & you're going for unique... so, i say go for it! I have a friend named Kamia... maybe you would like that?? I have never known another Kamia... & people always love her name... she gets tons of compliments!

Actually, I would shorten it to "Rema" for nickname. Then you would have "Rana" an "Rema"! Cute!

Sounds really nice I think. And both Kiri and Rema are cute nicknames!
