We have 20 weeks to go yet but are struggling to come up with a name for our boy. We had trouble last time around but we both agreed on the name Liam James.

So far we have

Jacob Thomas
Archer ?
Ethan ?

Is Archer too obscure?

We love Jacob but are not so keen on it getting shortened to Jake which will inevitably happen.

Archer is quite cute, i wouldnt say it obscure, but the would probably get shortened to Archie (which is lovely).. I really like Jacob too, and if you corrected people if they tried to shorten it then im sure they'd get used to it. May only be an issue when he gets older, which can be a good thing as it'd gived him the option of what he'd like to be called. :winkwink:

Good points Mumof5. Thanks for your feedback.

I like Jacob too that's one of our possibilities for a boy

I love Jacob! It was one of my choices for a boy this time.

I agree, if you don't want it shortened to Jake then just correct people, it'll become habbit to call him Jacob and that's what he'll be known as.

I love Jacob but of course I have a Jacob who is 5 and nobody calls him Jake other than me or DH and thats only sometimes and at home mostly :) actually most call him by his first and middle name Jacob Levi for some reason may be cause Ive done that a lot :) but Ive noticed that most people will go with what you call your child so if they always hear you say Jacob they wont be calling him Jake. my mom had this problem with my brother Jonathon she really was against calling him John and nobody calls him John as she corrected anyone who tried to she even hung up the phone on his friends in high school that called and asked to speak to John :haha:

I think we will end up going with Jacob. My only issue with the Jake thing is that we know a girl through work who has a Jake that is completely off the rails and has just gone in to a special corrective detention school for naughty boys. It's funny how experiences with other people put you off certain names. I'm sure our little one won't be a menace to society. Thank you ladies for all of your feedback. We already call him Jacob out loud sometimes to see how it sounds.

Jacob is cute but I prefer Archer but I guess it depends on how it goes with your surname too. Archer Jacob would be a possibility.

All four are nice, but, no offense, Archie is not so good.
It only reminds me of Archie Bunker (tv show) or Archie the comic strip.

Not that Im that great of a judge, no one seems to like my favorite names (Hazel and Noah)...

Hazel is pretty. ;) I actually like Archer or Archie. When I hear that I think personality, lol.
