What does your 3 year old drink his bedtime milk out of?

My son drinks water all day out of a sippy cup, we give him a cup of milk around 11.30 but he still has warm milk from a bottle at night (I change his nappy, put him in his pj's, we sit on sofa and he has his milk, then it's teeth brushing, story time and sleep).

But I'm thinking he probably shouldn't have a bottle anymore...but what does your 3 year old use to drink their milk out of? I will have a newborn soon, so I'd rather not give him a cup to use at night - as he might spill it and I'll have to take the time to clean.

Could you try a spill proof sippy cup? Or as he's 3 even one that's not spill proof, especially if he's already used to using one?

My DS hasn't had milk at night since he was 11 months  don't know if that's 'normal' but that's when we stopped giving it to him and he never made any fuss (he was eating a full dinner so wasn't really hungry before bedtime). During the day my DS gets a cup of milk with breakfast and lunch (in a plastic cup) and water the rest of the time (also in a cup). At night we offer him water before he goes to bed and used to give it to him in a regular cup as well until he dropped it a few weeks ago while in bed, so now he refuses to drink it that way and we have a sippy cup in his room that he can also reach himself in case he wakes up before we do and wants it, etc. We're also expecting #2 any day so having a sippy cup in DS's room has been great for the mornings especially.

Good luck :flower:

If you don't want to give your son a cup, then I suggest a sippy cup. You can have cold milk in it, or just heat the warm milk up before putting it in the sippy cup since most sippies are not microwavable. I suggest getting rid of the bottle before the little on comes otherwise he might fight you tooth and nail to keep his bottle as long as his little sister has one.

My son gave up his bottles at 10 months old, he is currently 19 months old and drinks mainly from sippy cups though at meals he has both a cup and his sippy cup to chose from.

By the time he's 2 - 2 1/2 the sippy cups will be only used when we go somewhere in the car. Otherwise he will be drinking from a cup.

Mine was breastfed till nearly 3 years and since then just used a normal cup or glass.

How about a sports bottle?

Tom still has bedtime milk in a sippy cup - one of the free flow Tommee Tippee ones. It's fine in the microwave.

I don't give bed time milk any more stopped a very long time ago, but he's drank all his drinks from plastic cups from just before 3. He has drank from a cup for a lot longer at the dinner table but out of my own laziness I gave him a sippy cup until 3 to avoid him spilling it lol.

I cut out bottles not long after he turned 1.

I must offer more milk though, I think I will get into the habit of milk in the evening but it would be in a cup downstairs, but he still wears a nappy at night which I would like to stop soon so I'm not sure if drink before bed is a good idea or not? Decisions!

She didn't have milk at night by then. I started giving her a glass of milk before bed, down stairs while we have a cuddle and then she goes up to bed. In the summer I leave a sports bottle of diluting (as she has never liked water) on her bedside table.

My daughter doesn't have bedtime milk, throughout the day she has water from a plastic cup/beaker, normally milk with breakfast, if she happens to have milk at night it is just out of a plastic cup.

Niamh drinks everything from an open top plastic beaker, has done since she was 2.5

if ive got the time (ie not running around getting ready for work) she has a normal open cup but if im rushing a straw cup as i can 100% leave her alone with it, where an open cup i worry i case she spills or drops it etc x

My two really only get milk twice a day in the morning with breakfast and at dinner time. For Rhys he gets a sippy cup (21 months). Hannah (5) uses a regular cup for her milk though I keep her water in a sports bottle.

Omar went off milk since we weaned him off the bottle at 23 months, he doesn't get any drink other than water before bedtime xx

I don't have a 3 year old, but if Violet is still needing night time milk at that point, I'll nurse her. For those not nursing, I don't see anything wrong with a bottle. If it's biologically normal to nurse until 2 to 7 years old, then I think it should be ok to give a kid a bottle of milk until they're ready to give it up on their own.

My DS stopped getting a bottle just a month or so ago, it took us a while to get rid of his before bed bottle. I've been wondering if I should be planning a milk time before bed and just give it to him in his sippy cup instead of a bottle, just a small worry he's not drinking enough milk now that he doesn't get bottles.

DS (3 months short of 3) stopped bedtime bottles at 18 months - he started refusing them. Since then, he has a sippy cup before breakfast (which tbh, is hit & miss these days whether he drinks it) & a sippy cup with a biscuit before he goes up for his bath. He used to have his milk warmed up but he now has it cold.
