Hey Ladies
My GP has made a referal for me to the a Fertility Specialist on the premise that he thinks i have low progesterone.

Im happy that he has doen this and am looking at it as a positive step. However im really scared and quite nervous. Not knowing what to expect??? Do they test everything or do they just focus on one thing...i would like the full MOT as its not just one thing im concerned about.

Can anyone tell me what happens or share their experiences with me? Would be very grateful.

Hi

We were trying for 3 years when we were referred. At the first appointment they just ask you loads of questions about just about everything! We didn't see the consultant till our second appointment he then arranged for scans etc. We basically had tests done for everything right up to me having an op done to look at my uterous etc. It was then he found there was something wrong and cleared it up! He then said it was a waiting game and if I didn't conceive in 6 mths that I would be looking at ivf. I found out I was pregnant 3 wks from my next appoitment!! I don't know if because the cause of my infertililty was unknown that they tested us for everything but you get the chance to ask any questions so you should raise your concerns and see what they say. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck.

xx

Hi there,

We were referred by my GP suspected as some of my 21 day progesterone tests indicated that I wasn't ovulating. We went along to our first appointment and were asked a lot of questions about our history and health, I was given an internal where the chap felt my ovaries and just checked that everything was ok. I was referred for blood tests, a scan of womb and ovaries to check everything was as it should be and a hysterosalopinogram (hsg for short) which is the procedure where they squirt die through a catheter in your cervix and check it goes through your tubes. DH was sent for a sperm analysis. These tests took about 4 months and all came back with good results. Then we went back and actually saw the consultant this time. I guess what happens at this stage depends on your test results. We were told it looked like unexplained infertility, and as some of my 21 day progesterone tests didn't have great results I was put on Clomid. Ended up conceving 4 months later on my 3rd round. Ironically we went to see the consultant the morning of the day I found out I was preggers and he sent us away to research IVF clinics. DId a test later that day and got a BFP!

Hope that helps and best of luck to you.

At my first appointment, he took some swabs. and then referred my partner for a sperm analysis and sent me for a Lap & Dye. This was in September and im back at the end of the month to get results and move on to the next stage!

Thank you very much ladies that is very helpful info. I now have a date of the 22nd March...so that gives me something to focus on and look forward to, as silly as that sounds. And also big congrats to you ladies with your BFP's...just shows you get there eventually!!! xxx

Yep, having a date makes a big difference, I found it really calmed me down just to know something was on the horizon. All the best, hope it goes well.

Erm my first fertility appointment..

I had an internal ultrasound, swabs, bloodtests and hubby had a sperm test.

:hugs:

Hi MrsRM,
Do you mind me asking how long you waited before going to your gp? and did you suspect anything was wrong apart from not getting a bfp?

We have been trying for a year and charting etc but not sure at what point gp would take me seriously and look to see if there are any problems.

Sorry for all the questions!

Fluffy xx
