What if it's cooked?

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but I want to make my diet as baby friendly as possible!

One of my favorite things to eat right now is spinach and feta cheese perogies. The kind I get are frozen, and I cook them. I know feta cheese is a soft cheese and it's supposed to not be eaten by pregnant women (and I heard some people stay away from those types of things while trying to concieve) but is there still risk of lysteria if it's cooked?

I believe it's ok if it's cooked. As long as it's properly cooked through, that kills off any nasties.

Feta cheese is fine to eat uncooked in pregnancy, it's pasturised. It's other goat cheeses that aren't :)

Oh I did not know that - thanks! Now I can eat it after OV again:happydance:

Thanks Jolinar! I heard that it was grouped in the "bad cheeses", and Feta is the only soft cheese that I really like. So yay!

I ate anything and everything first time around pregnant, cant see me being any different this time being honest

Dont think our parents were warned off things years ago :-/

I don't know if things are the same in PA as they are here in California.. but I've been joking that they must pasteurize the cows out here... I have YET to find any cheese that is unpasteurized... even fresh mozarella.. brie etc...
all made from pasteurized milk, lol

The lunch meat and hotdogs etc can have listeria too but heat will definitely kill it off.
I wouldn't deprive yourself too much while TTC... listeria is rare and most healthy people will fight it off without even noticing.. it just that your immune system is compromised while pregnant so you're more susceptible to listeriosis.

Even when I was ttc I was a nightmare with avoiding certain foods at first. I just thought that if I lost the baby then I would be convinced it was because I ate this or drank that etc, and would feel so guilty.

Now I am pregnant I am still being good but not to the same ridiculous lengths. I still try to avoid caffeine and will only have one cup of caffeinated tea a day and I am following all of my GPs advice but just not to crazy extremes like cutting out chocolate because of caffeine content etc.

I think it's all about balance x
