what is 'Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element'

I have been told we can get £21 a week child tax credit.. is this 'higher than the family element'? Just wondering if we will get the sure start maternity grant.x

I believe for a child under 1 its about 1100 a year and child over 1 its about 550... Thats what the sure start grant form states anyway hun x

You may do hun, you won't truely know until you get your tax credit award through as that wil tell you your exact entitlement. If i were you i'd think about it again once babes here so if you do get it its 500 quid you weren't expecting. Just remember though that you only have 3 months once lo is here to apply for it x

The family rate is £545 & the baby rate is £545 so £1100

If you are getting £21pw after the baby is born you will recieve £1092 over the year so you wont be eligable for it, by £9.... which i think is ridiculas actually!

Im about to ring child tax credits as i sent the forms off 3 weeks ago! The guy on the phone when i first rang for forms to be sent out said i would be entitled to £63.57 a week from the info i gave him...also wondering about higher rate stuff for the sure start grant! i have the form filled in but am waiting on child tax credits coming through first. Arg getting annoyed coz LO is coming up on 6 weeks and dont want to find out im entitled to the grant and end up missing out on it!

im not sure, £21 is what i have been estimated by the tax people..i guess i wont know for sure until bambeano arrives x

sweetlullaby - i didn't wait until tax credits came through to send my sure start grant application, they use the same reference numbers for everything so will be able to check it on their system. i also get the same amount as you in child tax credit and got sure start grant, so you will definately get it
