I would have to say the one I think is the saddest is Christmas Shoes.

"Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight"

The Band Aid song, "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

part of it:

" There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing
Is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you
And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
Where nothing ever grows
No rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?"

oh yes christmas shoes gets me every time. Although, so does Happy Christmas which was my dads favorite who passed.

'Grown up Christmas List' always makes me cry...

Although I know the words to that song I had never really thought about them before, it's so sad isn't it! Xx

It's not the saddest song, but Away in a Manger gets me. Some years back a girl I was at school with passed away and we sang Away in a Manger at her funeral. Now the line "Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care" makes me choke up.

Christmas Lights by Coldplay. To me, it shows depression at christmas and the isolation x

Same here. I mean, I know the words and many times we have sang it awfully loud on a drunk Christmas evening in high spirit but if you actually listen to it it's so sad :(

The little boy that Santa Claus forgot:

"I feel sorry for that laddie
He hasn't got a daddy.
The little boy that Santa Claus forgot"

Hands down the saddest song ever, made even more so by Nat King Cole singing it. Gets me every time.

The Christmas Shoes song is really sad......
The Muppet Christmas Carol song called Bless us all always chokes me up...its just the way its sung and the lyrics.

This one always makes me sad but I love it!

i don't even have a sad story behind it but that line gets me too. something about listening to children sing it, i think.

Love away in a manager always tears me up and silent night as well

'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' - the original version from Meet Me in St Louis - it has a deeply personal meaning to me and I can't usually listen to it without tears.

'I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day' is a good one too, adapted from a poem written during the American Civil War.

River by Joni Mitchell has to be one of the saddest!

Christmas shoes. Definitely. I turn it off immediately when it comes on. I can't!
