Hi Ladies!
I've posted on here many times but i'll give a little blurb about my situation.

We have been ttc for over 2 years, been together 8 and have never used BC. No hint of a BFP ever. All tests have come back normal so I guess that would but us in the "unexplained" category. Dr. prescribed Femara 5 months ago for super ovulation as I already ovulated on my own. All 5 rounds have failed. He wants me to continue for another 4 rounds and then we can discuss alternatives.

Should I be asking for more drugs? Something different to try? I just dont know where to go from here. He said that he "thinks" that this should do the trick and hes not sure why its not. "everythings perfect" is what he tells me.

Would it be worth doing IUI? Is there much of an increase in chances every month with IUI? Should I ask for injectables?

Thanks

hi. iui is worth a try. I just had my iui last friday and im currently on my 2ww

What you need to remember is that a healthy fertile couple takes an average of 6 months to conceive, with some taking a year. You've been TTC for 2 years but there is a problem. The drugs you have been given are rectifying the problem and therefore you are starting TTC from the beginning. This means you have only been able to conceive for 5 months. That's not a very long time. Taking the drugs for a few more months gives you a few extra chances, the same as a healthy fertile couple. If it doesn't work they may look into other options.

IUI may be an option but from what I've been told by my fertility specialist, Injectables are only used for Ovulation Induction. If you already ovulate, they will be no good for you.

I've done the injectables and I also ovulate on my own. The benefit to using them is that you can adjust the dose to get more than one follicle to up your chances a little bit. My doc always aimed to get 2 follicles per cycle.

Is he monitoring you by ultrasound each cycle to track the progress of your follicles?

Yes, IUI could definitely help. Look at it this way...when sperm have to travel from point A to point B, many of them don't make it. If you just put sperm at point B, you are increasing your odds just by quantity of sperm that have made it into your uterus.

You may want to ask about doing the femera, IUI, and a trigger shot. I think the trigger shot is the key for a lot of people...it really nails down the timing of when the egg is released.

I am not being monitored. I think in my head I thought that this would just happen as soon as I started with meds. Silly I know.

I will keep pushing through and finish the next 4 cycles that he wants me to complete and then go from there. Im sure he knows best but my impatience is getting the best of me,

You might want to be asked to be monitored. Without the ultrasounds and blood tests, you have no idea what's going on. How many follicles are you getting? Are the drugs affecting your uterine lining? Many of them do. What if the drugs aren't causing your follicles to get to the proper size? If they aren't the right size, you may not ovulate or you will ovulate eggs that aren't good. There are so many things that you need to know.

If you feel like maybe what the doctor is telling you may not be in your best interest, then it's time to speak up. 9 rounds of injectables without ever being monitored is really unusual. I've never even heard of that happening before. Most doctors will only allow 6 rounds of Clomid *total* throughout their treatment.

When is comes down to it, you are paying the doctor for his advice, and in the end, to follow the path that *you* think is right.

Another thought...have you had a hsg test done? Do you know if your tubes are open?

Hi popchick, Im on round 5 on unmonitored Femara, I havent started injectables yet. Last October I had a lap and dye test done. Everything good. In May I had an HSG done and tubes are perfect. Everythings "perfect"....something clearly isnt "perfect" because something isnt working. Just need to figure out what that something is.
