What tests should I request? Suggestions please!

I miscarried last November and today got my BFP. I am super excited, but also really nervous.

My doctor doesn't schedule the first appointment until 8 weeks, but I would like to have quantitative hcg bloodwork, which I'm sure he'll agree to do. However, I also want to have my progesterone tested.

My insurance will cover anything the doctor orders, and I'm willing to pay out of pocket for the extra blood work if I have to. I just need to know how to ask/make a case for additional testing.

Are there any tests I can request besides progesterone? Maybe clotting? And how do I ask (so the doctor doesn't just think I am paranoid and nutty - which I kind of am )?

Thank you!

I can tell you what my awesome doctor orders right away.
Complete CBC
Vitamin D (low vitamin D is attributed to miscarriage)
Thyroid
Hep B
Rubella
Complete Urinalysis
Progesterone
HCG Quant

All these tests help determine if something is wrong that may cause a miscarriage and he does them early enough that we can fix it if he finds something wrong.

definitely insist on thyroid (which is not commonly tested in pregnancy in Ireland or UK); I knew I had an underactive thyroid pre-pregnancy so was tested from wk8....also, iron (is that CBC?), as at the very least, if you are anemic, you will be more tired than usual pregnancy tiredness....

also check blood type (I am O- negative) and they can check to make sure that the previous mc didn't leave anti-bodies (my LO has his daddy's blood type, proof that he is my husband's! LOL!), so I needed various injections in pregnancy...

congrats on your pregnancy -- wishing you a happy & healthy 9 months!

best wishes

Great, thank you so much for the information. When the nurse calls me with my quantitative results, I will request the additional tests.
