I have no idea what to do. My baby has been on Cow & Gate comfort from 4 weeks. It's the only thing that stopped his wind and crying and colic.

I tried to switch him to SMA normal but he DID NOT agree with it. So we went back to comfort.

I've looked everywhere and it's out of stock. I look on the website and there is this announcement:

'IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We are very sorry about the recent shortage of Cow & Gate Comfort, we do understand the difficulties this is causing. The shortage is due to unprecedented demand and follows an issue of sourcing at one of our ingredient suppliers which has now been resolved. We expect Comfort to be back on shelf by mid-March. If you need further advice about feeding your baby, please speak to your healthcare professional or call us on 0800 977 4000'

I honestly think this is disgusting. How can they just stop a milk that babies rely on having? Switching over is something I want to REALLY avoid as it will upset his stomach.

Anyone got any advice on what milk I could try or what the best thing to do is?

Oh my god I just tried to buy Aptamil Comfort and they have the same problem on their website.

We are the same we will have no choice but to switch him to normal cow and gate. I am hoping that now he is bigger his colic won't be bad.
My HV sugested mixing bottles if you can to wean them onto the new milk. We have 1 tub of comfort milk left so she said to do morning bottle normal formula, next bottle comfort and so forth..... Aiming to have a comfort bottle before bed till the switch is complete. I would imagine with a full tub of comfort i can probably do the mixing for about 8 days..... Is this an option for you?

SMA comfort is still available. C&G and Aptamil are made by the same company. My LO took a while to get used to SMA but is ok on it now. Better than switching back to normal

my 15 week daughter was on c& G comfort for a while when she stopped breastfeeding because of constipation and wind but when she spent a week in hospital (broncilitis) the paedatrician said comfort milk was a con anyway so i just gave her c&G first milk she was still struggling so i tried Hipp Organic and shes like a different baby so much happier no more screaming with wind no more screaming for a day to have a poo its fantastic stuff even better than when she was on comfort milk wish i had tried it 6 weeks ago when we ended up ff.

SMA is running out now too people have said :(

I'm really reluctant to use any SMA milks because had them at first and he hated SMA.

We've just put him on to Cow and Gate 1. Trying again. We're either going to get colief drops or some infacol just to try and make the transition easier.

Thanks ladies x

That is disgusting, my LG is on C&G Anti-Reflux and they sometimes run out but luckily i can always find the Aptamil version somewhere. I'm not sure if it would help but have you tried soya milk? Might be a bit better on LO's belly. Hope you manage to get this sorted soon, must be so stressful for you x

I'm sorry your going through this but I don't really get the outrage at the company. They haven't stopped it on purpose. It will be back as soon as they have the ingredient.
Have you tried corner shops/small pharmacies, basically places people are less likely to look. Hope you find some.

That's probably because Aptamil and Cow and Gate are made by the same people... have you tried looking at ASDA or any of the supermarkets to see if they have it in stock (online- not in store!!) and order as many as you can? Otherwise you could maybe go back to normal cow and gate and use gripe water to help with the wind?

That's all I can think of xx :hugs:

sometimes they have products at online supermarkets and you find out they cant supply when the delivery arrives but its worth a try

My baby has moved on now, but any other formula made her tummy worse, she couldnt poo without comfort, I don't know what I would have done if this had happened this time last year

Aptamil is selling for £80 - £100 on ebay which is pretty unethical i think. If I see any anywhere I will buy it and post on here for cost plus postage.

I had the same issue last year with gripe water and thankfully found an online pharmacy selling it - limiting the bottles to 2 per customer. Might be worth googling online pharmacies

The online pharmacies are out of stock but ocado and boots online still showing stock...again they might not have the stock but are still letting you 'buy'

I ordered the comfort from Asda yesterday and was delivered the normal which is how I knew it was out of stock and looked into it.

I'm outraged because it's a milk my son is used too. If it had run out when he was 4 weeks or so we would have been stuffed. Nothing worked. Not colief, not gripe water, not infacol. the only thing that worked was cow & gate comfort for his colic. I feel sorry for all the parents out there with screaming babies that relied on it who can't have it.

You'd think they'd have a back up supplier or back up supplies even...formula is a big thing to change.

I've switched him onto cow & gate 1 and so far, so good, he's burping and farting like a pro still lol! So I think his wind/colic must have passed.

They have some cow and gate comfort in asda

They don't have it in our local Asda I've looked in all the supermarkets and tried ordering it online and they just subsituted it. I can't find it anywhere.

It's ok though. We just went on to Cow & Gate 1 and this time he's taken to it. He doesn't need gas drops or anything. He's burping and farting like a pro and his poo's have become a bit more solid and a better colour as they were very runny on comfort. He seems to LOVE the taste a lot more and drink the bottles quicker. and it's cheaper!!

So it looks like this may have been a blessing in disguise for us. He's still STTN on Cow & Gate 1 too.

I ordered c&g comfort from asda online a few days ago and they delivered SMA comfort as a substitute, so I've now had to start him on that as we run out of c&g. Since he's been on it he's pooing about 4/5 times a day and waking at around 4.30/5 every morning whereas he used to sleep until half 7 :growlmad: Surely that can't be coincidence! Roll on when c&g is back on the shelves.

C&G website now says they expect it back on the shelves w/c 25th Feb, so hopefully you can find some now! Good luck ladies, what a pain.

I noticed they had a load of C&G comfort in Tesco today, stocking the shelves with milk when I was shopping x
