What to expect at 17 weeks scan

Hi ladies,

In 2 days I am going for 17week scan. I was just wondering what should I expect. To be honest I am really scared. We have already told many of our close friends and after reading horrible mmc stories i am scared to death.
Back to topic is it anatomy scan??? Can I know my baby's gender at this scan. Last time they took blood for testings just wanted to know what else to expect.

I had one at 16/ 17 weeks to check for spina bifida.
We saw everything still have to go back for anatomy scan for a more detailed look of babies heart and they told us the gender.
It's a boy.

I don't think you have to worry about mmc. Surely you have heard the heartbeat at your appointments.

Hey glitter berry, first of all Congratulations for your little man.
Yes, i heard heart beat and saw the extra active little bean many times and I was never ever nervous with any of my scan. But, this one is making me nervous.

Thanks for information and I guess i need to go back for anatomy after 20weeks i guess. Good thing is i can get as many scan I want here in Japan . Was tempted go last week but hold myself for another which is scheduled one.

I guess we mothers never gonna get piece of mind ha...

I completely understand I have been for 3 scans and can feel movement. But am still terrified tomorrow at my doctors app there will be no HB. Or reading some of the very sad stories in here that at my 21 weeks scan something will be wrong.

I too wasn't like that with my 1st child. I was 18 and blissfully unaware of anything that could go wrong thanks to my incompetent doctors.

This time I am overwhelmed with knowledge and PANIC!!
Hang in there only 24 more weeks to go.

I agre I also when younger went along care free , this time there is so much to worry about and so much has changed and so many more tests xx

Glitter_berry and foxy37. I agree too. At start of pregnancy (this is my first ) didn't know much and then started surfing and getting to know more and more each day really makes us worry.

Ignorance is better some time. But, in some case it is better to know.

We found out about our mmc at the 18 wk scan last year. But! The doctors (several of them) all said it's very rare to have a mmc in the 2nd tri. We opted not to have an autopsy and are hoping it was just an anomaly.

Stay positive, I'm sure it will be ok we have our 17 wk scan next week and are hoping to find out the gender, it is possible (yay!)

I do understand worrying, though. I don't think we'll be able to relax until that baby is squalling in our arms.

I am so sorry to hear that. But, wish you luck for your next scan. Hope everything will be fine. I am trying to stay positive it's just weird for me to worry so much.

I wish my bubba cooperate and we can find gender. Want to start all the shopping and decorate
