Hi all! I am planning on a water birth and this may sound like a daft question but for you ladies who have done this before what did you wear in the pool?

Cheers :flower:

I didn't have a water birth but I know two people that did and I remember asking when I was pregnant because I was considering one but was worried I'd have to go naked , one wore a bikini top and the other a bra.

I had on one of my vest tops, and pulled the bottom up so it basically just covered my breasts. I'd already taken off my trousers for an internal and not bothered putting them back on, so was naked from the waist down, and soon ditched the top too and just went nude. The water was warm, MW and my family who were there had seen it all before so no biggie, and it meant we had immediate skin-to-skin when he was born.

i did plan on wearing a tankini but i didnt have time to put it on before i had to push lol so i eneded up in just my sleep bra (labour started when i was sleeping)

Just a bikini bra, a primarni £2 special I believe lol. Didn't bother with bottoms, you can't get in the pool usually till you're 6/7cms dilated, by that point dignitys long gone! x

I've got some sleep nursing bras that are like sports bras, I plan on wearing one of them during labor and not worrying about it if it ends up in the pool with me :)

Although, they told us most moms are naked by the time they get in the pool, haha!

I packed a bikini top but was in such advanced labour by the time I was able to get in (had to wait for it to run) that i couldn't wait a second longer to get changed so just wore my bra.

I packed a vest top but by the time I got to the hospital and ready to go into the pool I really didnt have much time to change so ended up in the t-shirt I was wearing. :)

I was planning in wearing a tank top that comes down to my waist / top of my hips. I'm shy so would rather not be totally nude. Is that ok to wear??

That'll be fine Hun, but you may well find you get so pissed off with it towards the end you'd prefer to be starkers...I was stripping off before the pool was even ready and I practically fell into in my rush it once they said I could get in. :haha:

I was planning to wear a bikini top that i bought from asda. In the end, by the time i arrived at hospital i was 10cm so i just got on a birthing stool and out she came!

But to be honest, i dont think it matters what you wear because most mums are naked at some point in front of the midwife!

I took a bikini as before labour I was horrified at the thought of walking round naked, second I got there everything came of except my bra. xx

I also took a tank top but ended up going in naked as I really didn't care about my dignity and wanted skin to skin contact straight after birth. My advice would be to take something and you'll make your mind up at the time. Good luck, I really enjoyed my water birth :)

I wore a tankini top. I rode up over my bump mostly though. The water makes you feel much less vulnerable so I wasn't worried about down below. My boobs were huge though so the top stopped them flopping about.

Here is me and Leila right after she was born:

I have bought a maternity tankini and also a padded bandeau bikini top from Asda - £2.50. They still have a heap in store and online, so at that price it's fine if I don't end up wearing it.

I think it depends on what positions you're in as well. My sister was my designated photographer for my birth :) and I've got loads of photos of the whole thing and in a lot of them I'm naked or nearly so, but the majority you can't see anything much.
