Is there an alternative to disposable baby wipes? OH and I have decided to use cloth nappies for our LO so would like to know if there are any natural alternatives to 'normal' baby wipes around?

Thanks :flow:

I have the bamboo toweling ones in tie dyed patterns. I know other people like Cheeky Wipes. You need about 25-30 or so I'd say.

I used disposable wipes for ages until I discovered they were the cause of my daughter's recurrent nappy rash. Oh the guilt. And I used the more expensive and supposedly gentler Nature Baby, Jason's wipes, not the cheaper Huggies/Pampers type.

Not only are reusable wipes gentler, they are more effective at cleaning and you will save loads of cash.

Thank you for the link! I've been on weenotions.co.uk before but didn't see that section :D so would I just wet them with water or is there some sort of solution you get for them? x

I just use water. You can also buy solutions or make your own. A camomile and honey teabag soaked in a bowl of boiling water works well I find when she's pre-rashy. Calms everything down.

You can buy solutions, make your own or just use water. I tend to use just water but first thing in the morning (after a long time in her night nappy) or when she's pooed, I put a squirt of baby wash on one of the wipes and give her a better wash.

If you want to make your own, the mix I used to use that worked really well was a couple of drops of tea tree oil, a couple of drops of sweet orange oil and/or lavender oil and a squirt of baby wash in a tub of water, then soak the wipes. Or you can put it in a spray or sports bottle, to either spray baby or dry wipes as needed. You can also use camomile tea - that's very good for nappy rash or babies with very sensitive skin.

If you want to use the odd disposable wipe (I do when out and about), Jackson Reece ones are very good, and you can get handy travel packs of 10 where the wipes are flushable too (they degrade in water in 8 days I think). They smell divine but are all natural. My daughter loves sucking on them and I thought she was mad until I tried one myself (!) and it was just like water.

I swear by Cheeky Wipes. If you use cloth nappies then you only need the mini kit, not the full kit.

Every three days or so I put 2cm of water in the tub- a few drops of the gorgeously smelling oils- and wipes in. Et voila! Done. They go in to the nappy bucket with the nappies. I didn't use any oils, just water till he was about 6 weeks old.
