My little girl was born oct 2011 before she was born I worked full time and always have done when my maternity finished I only wanted part time to spend more time with my child work agreed to my change of hours and they was perfect hours and days although I hated the work I did . In time I kept looking for other jobs closer to home I found one with Royal Mail I'd always fancied doing a post woman's job and it was advertised as part time 21.5 hours and temp although I was led to believe after 6 months it would be permanent as a friend who worked there told me anyway I got the job but had my doubts as it was only slightly more money and my husband who knew someone who worked there said I would never work part time as they always get you doing more so I went ahead and I'm now regretting it as I'm near enough working full time and hardly seeing my daughter plus walking 5-7 miles a day is so tiring I have been given my notice to leave at the end of may as they are reducing head count and I'm so un happy with the job I'm happy with that but now it's looking like I might not lose my job although i have not been told officially as so many other people have left the business . If they don't finish me I'm stuck there as I cannot walk out on a decent paid job without another to go to as I wouldn't get any Jsa but I v been applying for jobs since feb with not so much as an interview I know it seems the answer is to stay put till I find something else but has anyone got any other positive views on my situation what I could do ???????

Have you spoken to your boss and asked for less hours/explained you can only do what you were contracted for? If so what did they say?

The thing is is if I agree to only do my contracted hours it would mean leaving at 13.10 and most of the time we are still delivering till - 15.00-15.30 sometimes later depending on how heavy the post is and I can't just abandon the delivery half way through if you know what I mean !

Can you ask to only do certain days? I know round here we have a weekday postie and then somebody else delivers on Saturday. I obviously don't know how they work that, but maybe you could fill in for other people e.g. do one round on a Saturday, one round on a Monday and another on a Weds, depending on what days other people didn't want to work. Or could you arrange a job share with somebody? Split your round and each do half of what you're doing now (half the days, not split half way through a round!). I think you have a legal right to do a job share if you find the other person yourself, although I'm not sure about the details.

If you don't ask them, they can't help you, so I'd ask. It sounds like they are going to need to retain staff so they might be keen to help.

That's an unfortunate situation, nobody likes working a job they don't like. For now, keep working your reduced (it sounds like?) hours until you find something decent to replace it with. At least if they reduce your hours, you'll have more time to spend with your kids!
