What would you do?

I can see where she is coming from because you both promised not to steal each other's names. If this promise had not been made then I would say she should just suck it up because I do think it is ridiculous to stake a claim to a name, but a promise was made and in my opinion a good friend would honour that promise. I think it is absurd to end a friendship over this, but I also think it is pretty poor form to break a promise to a friend.
 
I got the impression from the OP, in the first post, that it was an unspoken rule not to use eachothers names...I don't really know what that means, I guess.
Did you originally say you wouldn't use eachothers names or not? If you promised, then yeah you shouldn't use it, IF you want to stay friends (and you should of remembered promising). If not, I don't see it as an insult to use a name she liked first.
