Ok, so i've made a poll so that people can give an answer without having to explain themselves  but I want honest answers to what you would do if these were your options!

Basically, I am re-thinking my job/career options! I totally love my job im in at the moment, but i dont know whether I want to make a career out of it! here are my options:

do I go back to the job I enjoy and make do with doing what I am doing, keeping in mind that I have already done two years of qualifications for it and got some NVQ's under my belt for it, and I like EVERYONE I work with (never had that before, lol) with the idea in mind to move up the 'career ladder' in time, even though I dont think much to the company who 'owns' us. i've also won three awards in two years in this current job which basically proves my competency

or, stay with the same job position, but try and find somewhere else (ie, another company) but risk not liking who I work with or for and having to work a year or so to 'prove' myself

or, do I try and pursue something totally new which I feel like I could make a career out of, however most likely I would have to take a pay-cut as I would be starting at the bottom of the ladder. and again, I may not like it when it actually comes to it!!

im not saying that there is no chance of a career with the job im in now, just that i'm not sure I want still be there in 5 or 10 years time  But we have a house and a baby to run so do I risk everything in order to start a new career, which could lead onto bigger and better things, but initially requires alot more work (which would suit me coz I hate to be bored)

thanking yous!! :D

I chose option 1... but that was an uneducated choice. =D You didn't mention what your dream job might be. If the whole new career would be your DREAM, I'd have picked that. hehe

Lol,fair point!!problem is,i dont know exactly what my dream job would be  it would be something to do with technical drawing, but A. I dont know where to begin, and B. I wouldnt know what career that would take me in to!! I would need to do alot more research on it, but I know for certain it would result a pay cut.at least whilst I was still training anyway!!
Thanks for voting though  x

Hi there, i know you have children and a familey you are thinking of first. But dont you want to be happy? It will benefit your whole family if you are doing something you LOVE. I think you may look back and kick yourself one day for just playing it safe.

Give it a try, if you cant get into your dream job or the money is too terrible then at least you can tell yourself that you tried!
My dream was to always become an air hostess and after 3 years of trying for the job at a certain airline i got it! i spent 2 years flying to amazing places and met amazing people. i left last october and am pursuing my 2nd dream now of having my family! I am so glad i did the job when i did because i feel i can really settle down now and maybe one day go back to it! i think if i didnt do it when i did i would have this baby and probably feel a sense of emptiness and under achievement!

Good luck hun
xxxx

I'd do option one if it was me. You like your job and the people you work with and there's chance to move up the ladder and it wont effect your homelife in a way that you'd be having to learn a new job and maybe not like new co-workers, its horrible to work with people you dont like been here myself! :flower:

i guess I need to decide what is more important. Working with people I get on with but for a company I hate, or risk working with people I dont get on with, but for a decent company!! The problem where I am now is, although there is a "ladder" you have to wait for someone to leave to open up a rung so that everyone can move up. And the next rung up from me is not a job I would want whilst this company owns us, iykwim!?!

I've just requested a prospectus to look at some courses to help towards a new career :happydance:...but still not sure about it

option 1- as changing jobs now in the present economical situation is not a good idea- lot of people are loosing jobs, so more and more competition for new jobs. getting jobs is so difficult, i have applied for so many and havent got any yet. stay where poeple know you, have recognised your work, your efficiency.

I picked option 1. I think that if you love your job, and the people you work with, and from what I gather the pay isn't bad then why try to fix something that isn't broken. If the time comes when you begin to feel unhappy with your job, then take the plunge and make the change.

Thank you to everyone who has voted so far.i am actually suprised by the results, but it has given me something to think about for sure.got my prospectus today :happydance: gonna look through it and see if it gives me any ideas!! :flower:
