I had a visit from the HV and she told me that LO will get weighed every time she visits as they no longer have a clinic to weigh babies due to the stress it calls mothers. I'm happy with this however also not as the HV only visits every few months so I've got a long wait and I was actually considering declining the HV visits however if I do how would I get baby weighed?? Xx

Our mothercare has scales in the changing/feeding room, or I go to the sure start centre where you can self weigh x

Children's centre, they have a drop in clinic. I personally wouldn't accept that and would find out how to get him weighed officially more regularly, regular weigh ins are pivotal morale for me and my success in BF, especially when we've been struggling. I definitely don't think it should be forced because I know it can have the opposite effect on some women especially with children on lower centiles, but it's important for me.

I get him weighed at clinic every month. I don't know why though, they are never happy he doesn't realise he is supposed to grow along a little line. He is up and down on his centile (9th-25th). I don't know how it would look if I didn't take him, they asked me to bring him back in a few weeks but I honestly can't think what they would do if he was still dropping, he is very healthy and has rolls of flab on his legs. He refuses a bottle anyway so it's not like I could do top ups.

Our area has a drop in clinic every Tuesday morning, where you can get lo weighed and also ask to see a HV while you're there if you have a question.

Currently I take my 10 week old every 2 weeks but that's because he's got an upper lip tie that he's seeing a specialist for in May (he's already had a tongue tie cut), so I want to keep an eye on his weight gain as in some cases breastmilk supply can dwindle over time with a lip tie and obviously I can't measure what he's getting. Otherwise I'd probably go about once a month or so.

It sounds like your local clinic was axed due to budget imo, closing it because of stress it causes mothers is an insane reason. Weight gain is one of the most measurable ways to check our children are thriving - yes there's no reason to panic if centiles fluctuate a bit, but since the clinics are manned by professionals any worried parents can be reassured there and then. A set of scales at home or in a shop doesn't offer you any reassurance or advice if weight is more or less than expected.

I used to take Louis once a month to the local clinic at my doctors. That closed when Alex was born and the next one was too far away without a car (which OH has for work), so bought my own scales and weighed Alex on them as needed.
