When are you/did you stop sterilising

I'm in Australia and I did hear that its not actually necessary to sterilise as our water supply is very well filtered and clean (& washing bottles in hot soapy water is sufficient to clean the bottles). But I sterilise and boil water religiously, and probably will for awhile yet as we are on tank water.
I did wonder about stopping tho.. as bub is getting to the stage of putting everything in his mouth..
