When did you quit taking progesterone supplements?

This is my 3rd pregnancy but the first to get this far along. Of the other two...one of them I believe was not viable and the other I believe I lost due to low progesterone. So this time around I started taking progesterone suppositories the day I got my BFP and by the time I went in for my first blood work 2 days later my progesterone level was around 58. The doctor has since kept me on the supplements...she said it might be overkill but better to be safe then sorry. She said I would stay on them until around 10 weeks. Well I am creeping up on 10 weeks now and I am terrified of discontinuing them. Almost as if they have become my security blanket.

So when has everyone else who had to be on progesterone supplements stop taking them? And some reassurance that everything will be fine would be great as well!!

I was on them because our cycle was an IVF one. Because I had no corpus luteum I had no source of progesterone so I had to take it artificially (along with estrogen too). My RE said I should expect to take them through week 12 or so when placenta would take over production. Imagine my shock when at my 7 week ultrasound they checked bloodwork, said my progesterone and estrogen levels were through the roof and I was fine to stop them then.

Made me very nervous but I also trusted my docs would never do anything to put this pregnancy in jeopardy. I stopped as directed and everything has continued on wonderfully. Just saw babies again last Friday and they're growing like weeds!

As long as your bloodwork says your levels are sufficient I would try not to worry. Try being the operative word as I know it's so hard not to :flower:

I stayed on thrm through my 14th week but halted the dose at 12 weeks...

Hey there Kantny09. I'm on progesterone pessaries. I've been on them since 5dpo and I was told to take until 10 weeks also. I used 2 x 200mg a day. I was a bit worried to but I had some leftover so dropped down to 1 a day which I will run out of tomorrow at 11w5d so close enough to 12 weeks.

It must be okay to stop at 10 weeks I suppose. My doctor is a specialist in fertility so I suppose I should trust her lol x

my doc over here in the uk wont entertain progesterone supplements I wish I lived over there as im sure it would help me too

That is terrible! So sorry to hear that. My doctor said it can't harm a pregnancy only help it. Sigh....

My doctor had me stop mine at 12 weeks. He said the placenta takes over around 9-10 weeks so he does an extra two week just to make sure.
With the first pregnancy that I took them with I was so terrified to stop them as well. I think they became my security blanket too :) then with this pregnancy I was not near an anxious about stopping them because I had already gone through it with my last successful pregnancy.
Good luck!!

I took them until 12 weeks with DS, 13 weeks with DD, and I stopped at 14 weeks with this baby. I just get my prescription and keep taking it until I run out and then I stop.

That's what I did Doc was fine with me finishing the bottle out :)

I was on them with my daughter and my OB told me to stop at 10 weeks. I told him I was scared to stop, so he told me I could continue as long as I wanted if it made me feel better but there was medically no need (only thing is they cost a fortune and my insurance didn't pay a thing on them) So at 10 weeks I cut back to one a day (I was on 200mg 2x a day) and then at 12 weeks I stopped completely.

Thank you everyone for your responses! I am in the same boat with how much they cost. I know I will have more leftover after Friday so I may do like everyone else and cut down to one a day until they run out.
