My boy 6 months this week and I started weaning last week, been to health visitor today and she said can start on 3 meals now,I thought this seemed a bit soon and also said can start dropping to 3 bottles, just wondering what u do

I just started doing three meals at 6 months. She is still getting all four bottles during the day though. :)

I try to do 3 meals a day but sometimes it's only 2 depending on how badly naps go! Sometimes if she's refusing to nap and she's cranky she refuses to eat! But she still has 4 bottles a day, she doesn't always finish them now, but I am doing BLW so I'm never really sure how much food she actually eats and how much she throws on the floor!

I only started off with one meal a day though, giving her bits of different foods to try only in little bits and have just gradually increased it. She seems happy now with breakfast and tea but lunchtime is still hit and miss. Personally I think me and dd are both happy going bit by bit, I wouldn't have just switched to 3 meals and day and taken a bottle away that's for sure. But then again I don't give her purées or anything.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that up until 12 months solids/purées should be for baby to be getting used to food, learning to chew and swallow, textures and for fun! And that it shouldn't be seen as nutrition so should still have the bulk of nutrition coming from formula or breast milk, and then baby vitamins once you start reducing the milk.
That's what I go by anyway.

Probably somewhere between 7-8 months and it wasn't until 8 months when it was definitely 3 meals every single day. I don't think there's any rush and I wouldn't withdraw a bottle to encourage that. If they are eating plenty of solid food, they'll eventually want a bottle less. I'd say it was probably around 9 months that my daughter stopped wanting her 11am bottle. So we moved it to around 1-2pm instead and now her 4pm bottle is very small and sometimes we just replace it with a snack if she doesn't really seem keen on it. But I follow his cues rather than just not giving it to him. The overall amounts will decrease first and that's a good sign that he's taking more solids and needs less milk, but it should ideally be a gradual thing.

I've been to a weaning class and also spoke to my health visitor about weaning. My daughter is 7 months and started having 3 meals about a week ago. Both HV and class said that they will start dropping milk naturally- which my daughter is starting to do. My routine is 8am/ when she wakes up food and then offer milk, 10.30 milk, 1.30 food & then milk, 4.30 food and then milk, 7 milk and bed. Most of the time she
Doesn't drink all if the milk so HV said she'll
Prob drop 10.30 feed naturally in next few weeks.
But it all happens naturally- they'll just eat so
Much they won't want the milk. And when they drink very little of it u can drop that feed :) just as long as they have 18oz per day :) x

Just before 6 months. ( started weaning at 20 weeks). My first was on 3 a day by 5 months but that was because he refused milk. Do it when you and baby are ready.

I offered three meals a day from day one but we did BLW.

You shouldn't be dropping bottles, you should just follow your LO's lead with it.

My LO is 7.5 months and still has only two meals - breakfast and lunch or dinner. If my husband and I have a snack at another time, he will have some too (fruit mainly, perhaps a crumpet). He is on four 7-8oz bottles a day. Personally I don't feel my LO is ready for three meals yet. He's a fantastic eater but I feel he is getting enough as it is. I imagine my LO will let me know when he's ready for more food.
