I am tall and slim and I was wondering when you usually have to buy larger clothes or maternity clothing?

I work outside and it is time to buy shorts and I don't want to buy several if they won't fit for the summer. I am just 6 weeks now and this is my first

Any advice is greatly appreciated because I'm clueless to this

I planned with this pregnancy to try to buy clothes that aren't maternity but will fit me throughout, like dresses for the summer, and I bought some jeggings with stretchy waist bands that have extra room. My normal trousers and jeans are getting too tight for me now :-( I need to get some more clothes too. Such a pain as I think I may have to end up buying some maternity things but I'm just looking on eBay as don't wanna spend a fortune when they'll only be worn for a short time.

I would get ones that would fit you thought pregnancy otherwise you'll be buying a load more in weeks to come

my first baby i needed bigger clothes at 28wks.
second was in mat wear at around 10wks.
this baby my trousers dont stop up without a belt.

very hard to say for you x

I forgot to mention this is my second pregnancy so yeah might be different for you if this is your first.

This is my first, I'm also quite tall and slender. I'm about 10 weeks and none of my clothes are covering my belly!!! It doesn't look like a baby belly yet, but I put on a fairly big sweater this morning thinking it would work and it keeps riding up over my stomach : (

I am only 6 weeks and I already had to get a couple of trousers as mine are too tight because of the bloating :( It just depends how comfy you feel. If you are bloated and feel like wanting to get maternity clothes, get them :) you can just use and not use them depending how bloated you are.

My first I needed larger clothes by 26 weeks. I don't remember with my second because I just wore maternities for comfort early on. This time... My clothes are already too tight... I had gave my maternity clothes away.. So yay.. I get to buy more. I've just been wearing OHs shorts in the house.. Lol

I just bought 2 pairs of dress pants, 2 pairs of capris and some shirts. I plan to wear dresses and things like that in the summer. I do need some shorts, but dont want to spend a fortune either.

I've been thinking about buying some jeans. Shirts are okay for now.. but the tightness on my abdomen gets annoying. I might wait a couple/few more weeks. :)

I started buying more comfortable tshirts that will give me a little room. Trousers however is hard right now, I can't buy anything as if I go a size up it's still too if but my normal size is too tight only around my belly. I've already bought a pair of maternity leggings as the ones I had weren't very stretchy, so I know I can grow into these, bit loose in places but I wear a baggy top with it so it looks like regular leggings.
They're so comfortable!

Trousers are gonna be the hard part! Anything you can adjust well! They can be worn for when your in your limbo stage after birth too!

I've seen a few dresses that would be nice for spring and start of summer unless I get too big by summer :p x

I tarted buying maternity clothes around 11 or 12 weeks. Since I'm going to be bigger in the summer time I'm just buying a lot of maxi dresses and skirts and things like that. I have a bunch of maternity tanks tops and shirts but only one pair of maternity jeans.

It'll be worth buying a few maternity basics - jeans / leggings and underwear and a few 'nice' bits - it sucks when you have an event like a wedding or even a meal out, and you cannot find anything. Last time I mostly wore my own clothes - jumper dresses, long line vest tops, jumpers over maternity bottoms. i actually went to hospital to deliver in a size small top! I did buy a couple of cheap primark sun dresses / maxi dresses a size up (which was nice to wear afterwards) but mostly I bought maternity wear if I needed it. I was 20+ wks when I needed to wear mat leggings, but past 25 wks when I was wearing other maternity things. It's worth holding off though. I have some mat tops I never grew big enough to wear!

At nearly 13 weeks (5-7 lbs gained and still getting bloat on and off), some of my pants are started to feel uncomfortable to button up.

I heard some great advice to use an elastic band to widen the gap between button and button hole.

Thanks ladies! I still have some work shorts from last year so I will try to make due until I know when I will grow. I have already been looking online at the maternity tank tops that are on sale because I am tall now so I know when this belly does grow that my shirts probably won't cover it.
It's hard when you don't know what to expect and it is too early to tell anyone.

I don't know where you guys live, but if you have a Ross nearby, you should go there! I just bought 2 maternity cami's for $5.99 each and they are SUPER long! And made out of a good stretchy material too, not something that will shrink in the wash. I also bought a pair of maternity leggings for $5.99.

I'm on the taller side too, and I have a hard time finding maternity pants and jeans that are long enough. I'm only 11w4d but I can't buckle my current pants anymore. I use a thin hair tie and loop in through the button hole and loop the other side around the button so they still stay up. And I'll usually wear a belly band over that. That can double as a fake cami too if you have a shorter shirt! I love the belly bands.

Also, check out second hand kids clothing places - a lot of them sell second hand maternity clothes. Around here we have Kid to Kid, Other Mothers, and a few others. The selection is not THAT big but it's worth a shot. With my first I found 3 pairs of work pants, a few summer shirts, and a couple pairs of shorts and I think I walked out of there spending less than $40.

Great advice
There is a Ross store across the highway from where I work. I will have to check it out. I have a long time before I will need it but i am conservative with money and wanted to catch sales before I needed anything

I'm really stumped at how I'm going to manage this without spending a fortune. This is my third and I know I will show quickly this time around. I need to look smart for work and will need summer and winter clothes as I'm due at the end of November. Bought a dress and a tunic from primark the other day as they have started selling maternity. Think I'm just going to get some short sleeved t-shirts for work that I can wear with a pair of black trousers and dress up with some cheap scarves from ebay.

I started wearing maternity at 24 weeks with my first and 16 weeks with my second. Think it will prob be around 12-14 weeks this time.

How about getting some things for the summer that you would be able to wear with legging and cardis for the winter too?? My baby is due mid October so gonna try to do that. For the summer I'm planning on mostly long Maxi dresses that have plenty of room but non maternity ones so I can keep them

Yes that would probably work. I have some maxis from last year that I will probably get away with, also a couple of skater style dresses that I can wear over leggings. I think I'm going to finish up at the end of October so you're right, I'm overthinking it!

15 weeks tomorrow and still fit into all my regular clothes.
