So the amniotic sac breaks and the baby comes out of it but the sac must be attached to the cord at some point along its length. If so does the sac come out with the baby or the afterbirth? No real reason, just curious.

The sac is attached to the placenta.
Occasionally the baby can be born still in the waters with the the sac intact.

I did some gross google imaging and hadn't realised the placenta is in the sac, I thought the cord went outside the sac and joined the the placenta on the womb wall.

Thanks for your help, ttc has taught me a lot about ovulation and conception but pregnancy is certainly an education in biology!

It's very interesting isn't it?
I only knew as the midwife was showing dh about the placenta when ds was born and I looked too.
She seemed pleased he was interested and asking questions.

My daughter was born in her sac :) The placenta came out about 5 minutes later :)

I'd like a look if possible. It's amazing that a whole brand new organ has grown and kept your baby alive! My friend called it her baby's lifeboat :)

Mrs Green I saw a few pics of that online, it was amazing and in the olden days was a sign your baby would go on to do great things. I'll keep an eye out for here lol

Yes :) We got shown it and the midwife sort of 'opened it out' to show us where baby had been living, it was actually really interesting!
