When I get my elective section?

I have to get an elective section due to my hospitals policy on VBAC's after two sections. I am happy with this and not at all planning to contest the decision but after being told by one person that elective sections are booked 7-10 days before due date, I have now been told by someone in the same area that they no longer arrange sections the week before and jus schedule it for 40 weeks.

I have planned my mat leave based on having the baby at 39 week mark - don't really want to use 3 full weeks before baby is here.

Can anyone enlighten me?

which hospital are you at hun? Im using Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and mine was booked yesterday at my 32 week appointment for 38+6. They are usually done between 39 and 40 weeks xx

i'm in england and mine is booked for the day i turn 39 weeks

I read that they do them from 39 weeks however i seen my consultant and she said they would book me in between the dates of 3rd - 7th june. Well if it wad the 3rd June id only be 38+2 and the 7th id be 38+6. Maybe its because i turn 39 weeks on a saturday and they dont perform electives on weekends so id be 39+2 if they waited until 39 weeks and thats if they dont have any emergencies on that day... so maybe its a bit close to my actual date as my waters went early last time?! Hence why they getting me in closer to 38 weeks? Confuzzled myself lol

I'll be having the baby at Simpsons in Edinburgh. I am going to ask for mon 27th may (38+5) as that way DH and I will have a couple of days at home with baby before the kids finish school for weekend. If I have it at 39 weeks I will probably get home on Friday and then it's full on with kids and weekend activities etc.

You'll have to ask which days they do electives on hun. DGRI only do them on a Tuesday or a Thursday. xx

My first was an emergancy, however, my last four were all elective, all done on day that I was 39 weeks. Having a sixth in May already been told I will be booked for delivery at 39 weeks. Seems odd they would wait until 40 weeks as it would be a 3rd section. You should ask at your next appointment. It doesn't sound right. Surely they will want to delivery before you go to term incase you go into labour. Otherwise it would be an emergency wouldn't it??

Ask your doctor about it. My doctor has a policy that "elective" csections will be scheduled not later than a week before due date to try to prevent labor from starting.
