Hi there, we had IVF in March and I had six eggs retrieved from 10 follicles. But sadly none of them fertilized. The doctor said only three eggs were viable and just one or two sp were attached to each one.

We have been advised to go to ICSI which a new doctor is hopeful will overcome this problem. But we are worried and scared.

I wondered if anyone else had no or very low fertilization at IVF or ICSI , how you coped and how you went forward?

I am trying to get healthy and am takingh royal jelly, wheatgrass and other vitamins and doing acupunture etc. But the main problem is this feeling of sadness. Thanks, Greta. x

I didn't want to read and run. I'm waiting to do my IVF but I have a low AMH level so am unlikely to get many eggs and am terrified of any we do get not fertilising. I'm so sorry that you had this problem - IVF is a cruel business when it doesn't work but its positive that the other doctor thinks ICSI can help you.

Being scared and feeling sad is perfectly natural - do you have any counselling on offer at your clinic? I've found that really useful when I've had bad results in the past.

Well done for trying everything you can to be healthy - I really hope you get some good news soon.

xx

At first I was shocked when my clinic told me that they only do icsi - even if your problems "don't warrant it". But after hearing this it makes me feel willing to do the icsi.

I am so sorry for your experience but so glad that you can have icsi to help you get your baby.

:hugs:

My first two cycles were standard IVF, but having a poor fertilisation rate at both, we decided to change to ICSI for our third. We had a slightly better fertilisation rate but the drug regime was also changed so we don't know whether it was the ICSI or the drug protocol that had the effect. Our next cycle we are going onto a slightly higher drug protocol again to try to collect more eggs, which with ICSI will hopefully give us more embies to work with this time.

Don't be scared about going for ICSI - in some clinics they only do ICSI and in some countries it's all they do too.

xx

Thanks ladies and good luck, I hope your dreams come true. Yes I am just worried about that phone call after egg collection more than anything else. My drugs have also been changed and am doing a short protocol next time, which I am happier about. I have just turned 41 and I think maybe it's better not to turn off my own hormones at this age and to work with my body more. Saying that, I'm not sure how it all works. x
