when to concieve

Forgive my ignorance, but can you get pregnant even if you are not ovulating?

Me and my partner have been trying since February, but only during Ovulation, but he says that we can try to conceive any time, and that ovulation don't mean anything.
Is he right? Please advise.

your egg only lives for 12-24hrs so u need to have sex at this time, but sperm last up2 5days so a couple of days b4 can get u preg aswell ,after ovulation the egg dies x
