hi girls.

zakk is 13.5 months and i am expecting baby #2. we have started to think about moving him to the smaller room in a few months.

I have read that its best to give them about 6 weeks to adjust to this before the new baby appears as it might be too much change. either that or wait til after the new one comes then do a switch.

anyway..enough of my drivel. when did you move up to toddler bed ville? did you buy a toddler bed or something different? zakk still sleeps alllll over his cot, legs akimbo... sprawled... bum in the air... etc etc. how will he react to a bed?

just need some experiences

Not sure of the answer to your question but wanted to say congratulations on expecting baby no 2 x

Not sure whether this'll help, but we put Louie into his cot bed (took the sides down) as he climbed out. Since then (3 weeks ago) he hasn't managed to sleep a full night in his bed. He gets out, opens his door, whatever. Bloody nightmare.
Might be because he understands this new freedom, maybe at 13.5 months your LO won't really realise? We also had to move the position of the bed (as his cot was sticking out into the middle of the room and I thought it's weird to have guards on each side, so moved it next to the wall). I now regret this too and am thinking about moving it back but after 3 weeks maybe just leave put?
I think they feel a lack of security with the sides taken down. Just put bed guards up (I always thought they were to stop them getting out, but no, it's to stop them rolling out!) and even then a duvet on the floor next to the bed just in case.

thanks girls. im not planning on even attempting anything for a good few months so zakk will probably be about 18/19 months.

i guess when we get nearer the time i will know when its good to try. he currently has a cot bed so i guess we can always experiment.

i can however imagine him tearing his room to bits in the night.

We moved our daughter into a toddler bed around 16 months, I was due with my second a week short of her turning 18 months and wanted her to be used to a toddler bed by the time our son had arrived. We made it really exciting for her, got her some bright bed covers, she was quite happy with it. Though when it got to bedtime we found she kept getting out. In the end I had to do a 'supernanny technique' and sat in her room, facing the door and just kept putting her back to bed, I was up and down a bit in the night, but after that night, she was absolutely fine in it and we had no problems.

Oh, she also moved all over her cot in the night, and at the beginning we found her on the floor on her duvet quite a lot, it took her a bit more time but she now stays in the bed.

I'm in the same situation but not decided what to do yet! I I guess by the time the new baby needs a cot DS will be nearly 2 and probably time to be in a proper bed of sorts! Hmm, i'm gonna wait 'til after xmas and see where we are at with his development and decide then whether to try and do it before lo arrives or put or put it off as long as possible!!

I skipped the toddler bed and went straight to a single bed, cheaper and there was no way my LO was gonna last long in a toddler bed!
I found it better too cos we were able to spend the extra money on a real good one too and brought rails which only lasted about a month before coming off.
He should now have this bed until it breaks! We are hoping for about 6-8yrs
:happydance:

good thread! I was thinking this too... also toddler bed or normal size single? My little one also sleep ALL over his cot! Bum in the air arms out the cot! lm worried that when he moves into a bed that he will roll out and hurt himself....?
