I was told by a woman in a maternity clothing shop that during pregnancy you shouldn't wear an underwire bra. Not sure if she just wanted me to buy a bra from their shop or if it's actually true. Do you still wear one, or if not, when did you stop?

I'm 27 weeks tomorrow and I still wear them, I don't find the non wire ones that supportive and I have big boobs and need the support

Apparently u shud stop wearing the wires in first tri. The wires are supposed to constrict the growth of your boobs. Mine have felt much better since ditching the wires.

Wearing them as much as you used to can block milk ducts, I suppose they might get more uncomfortable as time goes on too. I'm trying not to wear them as much, and wear a sport bra or maternity bra at home and at night.

I'm too big-busted to stop wearing underwires! Think I'd damage myself more without them! (Have got a couple of non-wired maternity bras for comfort at home though!)

I wore maternity ones with dd after first tri but they arnt supportive or pretty but they are so much more comfier! Currently wearing normal wired ones as boobs are huge so think they would start drooping if I didn't! x

Huh I've never heard this. I'm still wearing underwired... oops? Blocks milk ducts? Is that true??

When they are uncomfortable and you need a bigger one!

I asked my doctor this last week, saying I'd heard underwires can block milk ducts. He told me that isn't true.

I'm still wearing underwired. I can't afford to be buying nursing bras till I know how big my boobs will be!!! I'm planning on buying a new bra when I can't fit into my current ones!

I found underwired bras really uncomfortable from about 6 weeks and stopped wearing them completely from about 9 weeks! I found that in order to stop my back from hurting I have to wear a bra 24/7 and underwires are really bad for that! I swopped to a sports bra first and then got soft cup and nursing bras! The support isn't as great as an underwired bra but they are so much comfier and are fine as long as I don't jump about too much or go running, etc and I have fairly large boobs!

If your underwired bras are still comfortable and well fitting then I'm sure you'll be fine! It's just even more important to make sure they fit properly as they don't have the same sort of give that a soft cup has!

Beca

I stopped wearing under wired bras when I was about 5 weeks, couldn't bear the pain! But I went up 2 sizes overnight and need to be comfortable for work.

I personally never looked back, best money spent and sooo glad I got them but everyone's different.

Ive just bought some online tonight. I only fit one of my bras now and its a rather soft one. Also, i tend to wear bras 24/7 anyway so thought it best to get something a bit more comfortable. Also, depending on what you read, you could be ready for a maternity bra at 16 weeks anyway (breast tissue grown most by then). Most of maternity bras are supposed to grow with you, unless you go up 2 sizes, lol, so i figure, fingers crossed, i might get some wear out of these i bought! :)

The one I got had great customer feedback as good for bigger busted women, cause i agree with everyone else that if its not doing its job wireless its also useless :haha:

im still wearing mine.but they are really getting uncomfortable.i dont waer bras at home as i have small breast and dont think i need to,but now,i even have to take them of at work too, especially when working a 12 hour long night shift.im suppose to be buying new ones any day now...

"wearing underwire bras during pregnancy is dangerous" is a load of crap. my boobs still went up almost 2 cup sizes and i have not gone 1 day without wearing an underwire bra. it's whatever makes u feel comfortable.

As long as they fit ok and don't dig into your boobs underwires are fine. I wear non wired for bed though, more comfy x

it all depends on your own level of comfort and needs. For me, i felt uncomfortable with wired bra straight away as I've got huge bonkers :))) and they're heavy as hell so i bough an non wired one straight away and enjoyed it ever since. It all depends!

When I went to he new bras when pregnant the woman told me it was a myth about the ducts getting blocked but stressed the importance of a good supportive bra as your boobs grow and it's a bit of a shock to your back. Plus you should get new bras to ensure it fits your new big boobies and underwires will dig into your rib cage as your rib cage expands

Which brand of non wired have you got hun? I'm a 36j and struggle to find comfy ones x x

at my midwife appointment last week my midwife was measuring my tummy and she said "you really shouldnt be wearing wire"...it took me a while to figure out what she was talking about, then i realised it was my bra.

Iv worn underwire for the whole of my pregnancy. the only time it got uncomfy was when bump grew and was quite high up. Im now wearing one of my nursing bras i got for my hospital bag and its ok. its quite comfy but im only wearing it because i now feel guilty after what the midwife said.

She didnt actually say why i shouldnt wear an underwire bra tho.....
