When to switch to kids shampoo/body wash?

Eliza is 22 months and we currently still use baby shampoo and body wash. However lately it doesn't seem to get her hair totally clean. Is it okay to try a kids shampoo or would it be too harsh? Any brand recommendations?

I still use baby stuff. I'd maybe try swapping brands. But failing that I'd move on to kids stuff probably no real reason not to other than baby stuff will be milder.

I don't think there is much, if any, difference in most of the ingredients in baby/kids/adult stuff. I've never used baby specific products as they are just as full of chemicals as the rest. I use a plant based product that is fragrance free and gentle.

What do you mean when you say it doesn't get her hair totally clean?
I can't advise as I still only use water (and leave-in conditioner) on mine and it totally does the job. I think I've only everbused shampoo twice on her.

It's all just a marketing scam... Also, shampoo and body wash aren't even necessary. So the basic message is, it doesn't really matter. You could try it at any time and just switch back if there's something harsh in it.

Another water-only user here. For "leave in conditioner" I use apple cider vinegar.

We use loreal kids purely as my lo has long curly hair and I find the baby stuff leads to her curls tangling so we get the conditioner which keeps her hair manageable. We used from about 2 I think. I like the horns and halos stuff as well. We stay away from Johnsons as that dries out her hair

We just use adults stuff. Have done for a long time. For Jacob, we use Aveeno bath & shower oil for his eczema (prescribed by GP) but for shampoo, we use whatever I have bought for me.

We use Original Sprout Natural Shampoo which is 100% Vegan & Cruelty free. It has no nasty chemicals at all and yet smell delicious. We also use a leave in conditioner by them as Dominic has tight corkskrew curls which would otherwise tangle badly. I don't think I will switch the boys to anything else for years to come. If ever.
As for body wash or lotion, since Sebastian has eczema we use a lotion that the doctor prescribed on both boys. It is called Dermol 500 which actually a moisturising lotion but can be used as a soap replacement. If he didn't need that I would probably use something from Original Sprout there too.

I think I just switched when we ran out (we got given tons of baby body wash, shampoo etc as gifts when she was born and it only ran out when she was close to 2!) DD doesn't have sensitive skin or anything so I just use whatever kids stuff is on offer.

I wonder if it would work for detangling curls? I hate using the conditioner on her, but if I don't, it's impossible to brush or comb and after a nap, we start heading for dreadlocks.

.

I've got their leave-in conditioner but find the smell overpowering. Out of interest, does the shampoo smell the same?

yes it does but I think it is mainly the leave in conditioner that leaves the hair with that smell as I never find it as strong on Sebastian, on whom I don't use the conditioner. Shame you don't like the smell, I love it and love sniffing his hair when it is fresh :flower:

It is a shame indeed! We bedshare and I spend most of the night with my nose in her hair - I'm finding it really difficult right now. It does work though for detangling. I've always wondered how you keep on top of Dominic's hair. It's lovely!

Maybe "not clean" isn't the best way to describe it. It just always looks kind of dull lately, and gets greasy looking very fast. Maybe it's just the brand I'm using.

Oh thank you :) So far we only brush it when it is wet and freshly washed, after putting the leave in conditioner in. Brushing it any other time is torture for him. I am dreading it but I suppose we shall eventually have to cut it as it probably will dread over time. But it hasn't so far.

I used to just use water but at 2 1/2 he was still almost bald and someone here said regular shampoo helps?! IDK but anyway we now use Johnson's No More Tangles. I don't plan on switching as it's the one I use on my own hair.

I use adults stuff on their hair. Only because I use it, and its expensive stuff with natural ingredients, better than most kids stuff and leaves their hair lovely for days. I use Oilatum in bath as they both have bad skin.xx

We use superdrug kids bathwash and 2in1 shampoo and conditioner. Also vegan and not tested on animals. They've been just fine and leave her curls looking beautiful.

We used water and coconut oil until she was about a year old. Now she gets too dirty and has too much hair to use just water.

i use the same skin friendly shampoo as lo . no need to change.
