Hello all; I've recently weaned my lo onto 3/5 feeds a day being bottle and we're using aptamil first; but i've been wondering for a while now when and if to use hungry milk - more often than not my little one will drain a 7oz bottle and usually go on to drain another 4oz straight away. i dont' know if this is 'normal' or not.

she'll take about 11oz at 10am, then maybe 7oz at 1pm and anywhere around 7oz to 11oz at 6pm. is this too much? i always thought if they drank it then they needed it but i don't know much about hungry baby milk so advice would be appreciated.

she's gaining weight fine; no issues there and has two feeds of boob during the night, one at about 2.30am and another at about 6am to 7am.

My little one is becoming like this too! He only has one bottle at night but will drain 9oz no problem!! I would be interested to hear what other people say as I am also thinking of trying hungry baby milk.

I've just put LO on hungry baby milk, so far so good. She's now going longer between feeds (as opposed to 2 hours!) and she's been sleeping through again at night.

Hey I think you should try the hungry milk - I'm going to get some for my LO today shes drinking 7-8oz every feed and wants feeding every 2 hours so going to put her on cow and gate hungry milk.

let us know how you all get on!

xx

mmm think i might try it this weekend although she seems to go 3 to 4hrs between feeds but she does down a lot of milk. cant hurt to try it i guess. although she's come down with a cold now so is off her milk a bit so may have to wait a bit longer to try it - will wait and see how she is this weekend.

i've heard it makes their poos really smelly - is this true?

I was thinking of doing this. My LO is only 10 weeks old though so will it be ok? Were using Aptimal first milk atm but during the night she only seems to go 2/3 hours between feeds if that, sometimes she does the same in the day too

hi samzi; i would guess that your little one will start going longer soon. my lo started going from 7pm to about midnight / 1am at around 10 weeks. 2/3 hours is quite normal, i think? but it's your choice and i don't know much if anything about hungry milk yet :)

One of the HV's told us that when Noah starts to drain 8oz bottles to then move to hungry baby milk - at the mo he is on 7oz every 4 hurs.
so if your LO is draining big bottles definately give the hungry baby milk a go i think

you see, sometimes she does and other times she doesnt:s

a few weeks ago she went about 5 hours between a feed during the night. she seems to be different every day

it should settle down soon - occasionally my little one will go from 7pm to 3am - not very often though - some days they are more hungry than others :) it does settle down eventually though.

i think i'm going to try hungry milk when my lo's cold has passed as she's draining 7oz bottles with ease at most of her feeds and usually goes on to have 11oz. plus we've started trying her on a bit of baby rice at one feed so we can wean her very very slowly over a period of time rather than suddenly start weaning her at 6mnths. i think she's ready for something a bit more substantial than apatamil first so i will try hungry milk. the advice above has helped actually. (i always forget i have a HV as i haven't seen her for months!)

well i tried the hungry milk this weekend and she seems to be taking a little less at each feed but not by much; she still drains a 7 oz bottle at her normal feed times with the occasional 11oz but she's not as frantic to get her bottle (i know crying is a late sign of hunger and we were always verging on crying for her milk before) but now she's pretty content about when to feed. i'm a bit concerned though as i've just read it can cause IBS later on? I hadn't heard this before now...

On the aptamil hungry milk box it says to delay on the onset of early weaning, which makes sense as we've just tried our little one on some baby rice and today a bit of carrot and she's readily eating it as though she's hungry for more. i'd like to hear from other mums that have used hungry milk with no problems though as i'm now a bit worried! I was going to swap her straight over now as she's had hungry milk for all her feeds since friday night but i don't want to swap her if there's a risk it might cause trouble later on. what's hungry milk for if it causes bowel trouble?

just wanted to add my lo has gone a bit longer at night with the hungry milk but that could be a fluke as she's done it before on and off.

hi all - just wanted to say we've made the transition over to hungry milk and there are no problems so far. i switched quite quickly from stage 1 to stage 2 aptamil and there were no problems. lo doesn't seem to go longer between feeds but she takes on average up to 8oz per feed now which is better than guzzling over 11oz sometimes. she doesn't sick up ad has no problem passing her poos so all good. thanks to all that gave advice. seems to work for us.

my daughter was a hungry baby was feeding 6oxx bottles every two hoursi jus put her onto aptamil hungry milk it worked she went longer between feeds and was more content i would give it a go also try and give your lil one water in between feeds as a lot of the time its thirst thats why they have so many bottles

i would deffo try hungry baby milk if i were you, my LO went on it about 3weeks and he slept alot longer at night and settled soo much better :) xx

just wanted to add my 3weeks old was drinking 9oz every 2/3 hours lol xx

My little boy has been extra hungry baby SMA milk for about 3 weeks now and he is now 11 weeks and it fills him up much better and has started to help him sleep through as he is much fuller plus more content x x
