In other words, what sorts of issues, tests, etc do you have to have for clomid to be prescribed?

I have pcos and a short lp...lpd.i knew i had pcos from research, i went my dr. In 2007 and he did a hormone panel my fsh to lh ratio was off indicating pcos... I am not sure.. But i think they only give it to women that have hormonal issues...that makes it difficult or not possible to ovulate....all clomid does is increase hormone levels so that ovulation can occur, nothing else...

I was trying for 9 months, but had low progesterone levels. My regular doc took the blood test, and sent me to an ob, who prescribed me clomid. I'm on my 2nd cycle of 100 mg.

Arrielle, I haven't been on singe your bfp!!! Congrats!!! :happydance:

I have been seeing a fertility specialist for a month. They did an initial exam where they did an ultrasound and saw that I had PCOS. I had a second visit to do a bunch of bloodwork where they tested my testerone levels, progesterone, glucose tolerance, and who knows what else- They took 9 viles of blood! Everything came back okay and they took 2 more viles of blood at my third visit... And at that visit is when he prescribed Provera to induce my period and told me when I start that he would be calling in my first round of clomid

I went to my OB/GYN because I hadn't had a period in 6 months. She immediately said she didn't think I was ovulating and that it sounded like I had PCOS, so she did some bloodwork to test my FSH, LH, testosterone, glucose, insulin, prolactin, and thyroid, which showed that I did have PCOS. I also ended up having an ultrasound that showed the PCOS "strand of pearls" on my ovaries, which confirmed the diagnosis. After that, she prescribed Clomid.

I also have pcos and insuling resistance, dont get periods very often. Was trying for a baby for nearly 4 years before the doctor gave me metformin and clomid. Caught on the first cycle and now have a beautiful baby girl. All the best everyone. xxx

Hi Indigo,
As I understand you are prescribed clomid when you are having problems OVing or your eggs aren't looking like they are good enough.

Normally they let you try on your own for about a year before your GP would refer you to the fertility clinic, at least that's how it is in this part of UK. However if you have any other underlying issues they may see you sooner.

I personally had a history of absent periods for many years because of PCOS so when I went to see my GP and told him I am TTCing, he immediately referred me.

After ttc for a year my doctor referred me to an FS at the hospital. After blood tests and a HSG I'm not waiting for my next appointment where they have hinted I'll be prescribed clomid if I have lost enough weight. x

Just got my second round of Clomid filled! 100mgs this round...can't start taking it until I get my period, whenever it "decides" to come! Ugh.

My Gyno made me wait till 18 months of TTC before sending us to a FS.
We had a bunch of test done and finally after 2 yrs 2 months of trying a million blood tests, ultra sounds and other test they found nothing wrong and i was given clomid....
i was afraid to take it but today i finally took my 1st pill

i also have a reg period & ovulate each month no tube blockage was found and my hubby's sperm test came back great...

Wow...over 2 years before you were prescribed? Did they determine you just had weak ovulation?

Waiting, 2 years?! That's a long time to try. My ob-gyn prescribed it to me...next step will probably be a fertility specialist. Good luck! I didn't have bad side effects, just hot flashes and emotional ups and downs.

Our FS said its just one of those cases where there not sure why i havent got preggo yet beacuse everything is fine or at least it appears to be in all of the test we have done... my gyno wasnt much help but the FS is great

she did mention AI but we want to try a little longer before we make that a choice

i had been trying for around 9-10 months i had had a HSG which i found to be unpleaseant. i then started to go to a fertility Dr around 3 weeks ago. my normal GYN had given me 50mg clomid without sucess, the FS gave me 100mg with no sucess and i just finished my third round on monday night and iv started to take metformin and i have a US sched on sat to check for folicles
