Hi ladies,

Just a quick question really as to when people made an appointment with their docs? What happens on your first visit and what should you expect? I am in the UK, so would like to know what to expect ...thanks xx:flower:

mine was when i was 6 weeks, the doctor just took my blood pressure and asked me a few questions about my general health, she said i wont see a midwife until 12-14 weeks, but i think it varies by area, as some women on here have seen their midwifes as early as 8 weeks, just book an appointment asap with your doc and see what they say, i think every doctor is different xxx

Thank you hun,
Think I will book it for next week, then I will be 6 weeks and a few days x

I made one as soon as I found out, I thought I was 8 weeks but must have been about 5. I just done another pregnancy test there because I wanted to confirm (it just didn't seem real!) and then she gave me a prescription for folic acid and gave me the number to the midwife. I then had to get hold of the midwife myself.

Oh right, that's unusual. Didn't realise you had to contact the midwife...thought the docs would do that for you x

Hiya, I phoned my docs surgery as soon as I got my BFP and they gave me the midwifes phone number straight off!
They said the doctors didnt need to see me as home preg tests are so reliable these days! (I did 5! all positive!).
So I phoned the midwife and they booked me in for around the 8 week mark.
As ladies have said above it differs between areas as a friend of mine got seen 2 weeks earlier than me at 6 weeks and shes not that far away!

I had my first consult (mainly informative talk with nurse/routine blood tests) during my seventh week. My first proper appointment won't be until October 7th when I will be in my 12th week.

I waited a week before I went to the doctors they gave me my folic acid and told me the midwife would be in touch and then I got home and half an hour later she rang me up and made an appointment with me. Only one week till I see the midwife for the first time xxxx

I haven't bothered with a doctor's appointment this time. Last time I went when I got my bfp and he basically said congratulations, go check in with the MW when you're 10 weeks.

Thanks guys,
I have just called the docs and the receptionist told me that I will not be able to get in today as it is emergencies only....I told her it wasn't an emergency and she took my details and said I would receive a phone call on Monday from someone to speak to me. So I await Monday morning now. x

I went at 7 weeks. He took my blood pressure, told me my due date from my last LMP and gave me a couple of leaflets. He passed my details onto the midwife and she got in touch with me for a booking in appointment and a scan x
