Hi everyone

I'm looking forward to joining you all soon, as my baby arrives by c-section tomorrow :)

I want to follow the SIDS guidelines when Alex gets here and understand that it's best for baby to sleep in our room until about 6 months. I'm just wondering where he should sleep in the evenings though, before my H and I go to bed? This is assuming he will sleep in the late evenings right enough....

Should we put him to sleep in his crib in our living room while we're there, and then move him to his crib in our bedroom when we are going to bed ourselves? Is this what most of you do or do you put your babies to sleep upstairs and listen in with a baby monitor until you go to bed in the same room later?

Naturally we'll do whatever is safest for baby, although I can imagine moving him might be a bit of a pain if it wakes him up when he is settled.

Thanks in advance!

Laura x

At first as a newborn we had her in the living room with us, then we would carry her up when we went to bed. I think about 7 weeks when she was sleeping longer we would put her to sleep in our room and listen through the baby monitor xxx

We had Elliot in his moses basket in the sitting room with us then took him usptairs in it when we went to bed

But he was a big boy and outgrew his moses basket by 4 weeks old, so then he had to go in his cot, and it didnt fit in our room, so he went in his own cot in his own room from 4 weeks old

I know thats not SIDS guidelines, but we had the monitors on and he wore a sleeping bag for bed so there was no chance of the blankets suffocating him (cos he doesnt use them lol)

Good luck for your section too tomorrow! So exciting, I had an elective cs and it was amazing xx

good luck for tomorrow..

ive got a travel cot in my living room where we put ollie at night before we go to sleep..not ideal but i cant bear the thought of him being upstairs without me.

im a rather paranoid mother xx

For the first 4 weeks sadie slept in the Moses basket in the living room and we took her up to bed when we went- it takes a lot to wake a sleeping newborn. Then when we'd taken the basket out of the living room I used to go to bed with her and watch tv in bed whilst she slept in her moses basket. Last night was the first night I put her to bed and put the monitors on and left her and she'll be 3 months on Sunday. As long as you follow the SIDS guidelines aa much as you can do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Good luck with your section x

In the daytime Haley sleeps in her pack n play in the living room for naps and then at nighttime we cosleep...and if she goes to bed before me I have the circle of pillows around her so she wont roll off the bed (granted she would have to scoot pretty far bc we have a king size bed) and then I turn on the video monitor wherever I am to keep a check on her. I had the video monitor in her room by her crib but since she doesnt sleep there yet I moved it to my bedroom. Good luck!

She slept in her moses basket till we went through to bed. From about 8 weeks we'd just put her through in our room and listen out for her xx

Good luck!!
Ben slept in his bouncer in the front room with us for the first 7 or 8 weeks then we started a bed time routine and put him to bed by 7pm.

For the first few week lo was wherever we were in the evenings, now she goes to bed on her own in our room at about 7.30/8pm.

In our bed and still does but now he can fall asleep on sofa and is transferred to our bed when we go. In early days he was put into pram but sometimes he would only fall asleep on me. Never was out of our sight in a room on his own though, only now he can go to bed and we check on him.

For the first while Anna would be in her moses basket to sleep downstairs with us during the day and we would carry it upstairs at night with us.

At the start most newborns sleep almost all day - Anna would only really be awake to get fed!

Good luck for tomorrow - I had a fantastic c-section experience - it was the most amazing thing ever -look forward to see you back here in a few days with lots of pics:flower:

We started with him the carrycot in the living room but quickly realised whatever time he has his evening feed, whether it's 8 or 11, we go to bed straight after aswell. Only way to cope with exhaustion!! Good luck x

My LO falls asleep downstairs with us at the moment around 8pm then sleeps right through till 5am, so we just carry her up when we go and put her in the moses basket in our room, although as she now sleeps longer, we are gonna put her in her own room next week in her cot.

We kept Daisy in the same room as us for ALL naps up until 6 months. She would sleep in her moses basket then she would usually have a feed 9/10/11 and I would go to bed after that feed so I wasnt disturbing her :) Good luck tomorrow x

untill about 4-5 weeks old she slept with us downstairs in her basket. but the tv started waking her up and us talking and suff. so after 4-5 weeks we started putting her down in our bedroom about 9-10 then put the moniter on till we went bed.
shes still in our room but goes tobed at 9,00 ish every night on her own now.

oh and gl with your birth of your little anagel xx looking forward 2 seeing u again xx

As others have said, we kept him in his moses basket in the same room as us until he went into his cot at about 3 months, then we started putting him in his cot upstairs in our room to sleep as noise etc began to disturb him and checked on him regularly. He still sleeps in the same room as us but I am thinking of moving him out in the next month or so.

Thanks everyone - your replies have been really helpful.

Looking forward to joining you properly over here very soon. All your good luck messages are really appreciated.

Good luck!

Oliver was having all his daytime and evening naps in his lie flat pram in the living room and we were then moving him to his moses basket (for the first 8 weeks) and then to his cot (from 8 weeks on) when we were going to bed.

Now he is going to sleep much earlier we put him in his cot and use the monitor to keep an eye on him but we live in a bungalow so he isn't far away from us and can still hear noise of us and the tv.

my lo doesn't sleep in the evenings unless it is on me or dh. If by chance we can put him down he stays with us in the living room in his moses basket. I go to bed after his feed at 9/10 and then dh brings lo up to bed in his moses basket at about 12/1 ish after his bottle feed and then its up again and downstairs with me at 4ish for more feeds with me to let dh have some uninterupted sleep. I hate it as i hardly ever see my husband but its the only way we can sleep as lo (3 weeks 5 days) doesn't like sleeping :-(
Good luck with the c - hope it all goes well. xx
