Heya!

I know these threads come up every now and then but I thought now was a good time for one!

Which formula do you use? No matter what country you are in.

You can put the reasons why you picked, or why you had to use a particular formula if you want to. xxx

We're in Germany using a store brand formula from a local chain we're fond of. It's called Babylove in Pre/1/2/3. She's been on the Pre exclusively since 3 weeks, then we tried the 1, then back to Pre, and now she's having the 1 along with 2 for night feeds. We'll start upping her 2 intake gradually.
Well, I didn't have any part in choosing her formula. It was the day before Christmas (we just got home from the hospital, she was 3 days old) and my husband had to rush out to get some boxes since the stores would be closed a good few days. My daughter wasn't able to latch, she was very hungry and my milk hadn't fully come in so formula was a must. Anyway, he came back with Babylove milk as he liked the sound of its ingredients and that it's Bio. It's also a lot more affordable than the bigger brands with very similar, if not identical, ingredients.
We're both very satisfied with it and most importantly so is my daughter. She refuses any other formula (we've had to try 2 different hypoallergenic formulas because of a suspected milk allergy but it's thankfully been ruled out). :)

SMA 1

Earl was an SMA baby too and he never had any problems. He stayed on stage 1 until he was 13 months old and I plan on doing the same with Eddy

The reason we chose SMA for Earl was that both hubby and I were SMA babies back in the day, and it's easily available at most shops.

My first LO we started on SMA, but changed to HIPP from about 4 months, he had reflux and the SMA seemed to make him worse for some reason.

My second LO we started on HIPP straight when we switched from BFing. Haven't had any problems xxx

Aptamil. Used it with our son and never had any problems so stuck with it for our daughter too. I first used it when they gave it to me in hospital when my son couldn't get enough milk from me due tongue tie. The stocked sma and cow and gate too, no idea why they gave us Aptamil instead of the others but i think it's a lovely formula so saw no need to change x

Cow and gate because I was told all the formulas are the same so picked the cheapest! May have to switch him to the cow and gate colic and constipation make if he carries on struggling to poo though :(

We use cow and gate with DD2. The first few days after she was born we used the cartons and she pooed fine, just like my BF DD1's poos were. I tried moving onto the powder and after a day her poo seemed alot firmer and formed, not really like baby poo. That accompanied by the fact I was finding making up powder a bit of a faff led us to just sticking to giving her cartons for the first 10 weeks. I felt comfortable after that initial newborn stage to pre-make with powder and store in the fridge. Her digestive system was a bit maturer by then and she didnt suffer with the firm poos again. If you can work it into your budget, using the cartons full time for a few weeks until her digestive system matures may prevent you from needeing to switch to comfort milk. xxxx

Im in Australia and Im using Karicare Aptamil Gold+

I gave up breastfeeding 3wks ago and being on this formula I havent had one problem, fantastic!!

He seems worse when he has cartons (we use them while out) he manages to go once a day but always seems to be straining to go! Goes bright red in the face and screams while pushing :(

The cartons generally make their poo softer. Have you thought about changing to Aptamil? I hear that babies generally have really soft, runny poos with it. xxx

How do I go about swapping milk? I don't wanna upset his tummy even more... But I'm willing to try anything! xxx

I would just switch and see how he goes. Unless he has a bad reaction to the new milk (vomitting or colicky symptoms) then give it 2 weeks to see the full effect. If it helps him poo easier, then stick with it. If not then maybe give comfort milk a go. xx

Thank you! He's nearly finished this tub of cow and gate so I'll buy aptimal today xx

I supplement with Similac Alimentum. Tried two ounces of regular formula and she had bloody diapers for 10 days! So had no choice but to give a hypoallergenic one.
