Hi there,

I wondered if anyone could give me some advice please, I'm planning on buying some progesterone cream for the second half of my cycle, i have pcos so progesterone levels are usually low and i want to try and build up my progesterone if i manage to conceive, what i'm wondering is which one to buy, from what i've read it's best to go for the bio-identical/natural progesterone. Could anyone recommend any? and any to avoid? it's so hard to know which to get, as there are so many to choose from lol. I'd be really greatful for any advice. Many thanks in advance :0) Michelle x

Hi sugar pink,

I don't know the answer in afraid but I would try asking in the trying to conceive after loss forum, or even the pregnancy after loss forum. I'd be interested to know too so will look out for your thread xxx

No clue.

I don't even know what progesterone DOES for a pregnancy or how one knows if this might be a problem.

I'll keep an eye on this thread to learn!

Hope you get the answers you're seeking.

Hi I don't know if this helps or not but on Monday I was in the hospital having a scan for this current miscarriage I'm going through and was speaking to a lovely nurse who used to be a fertility specialist as I had loads of questions I was bombarding her with questions about why she thought I may be miscarrying repeatedly, I bought up the whole progesterone query (as I too was convinced this was my problem) and she rolled her eyes in exasperation and said to me that she has no idea where women these days have this idea that Progestrone creams or suppositories are going to help them carry a baby she said it is a total myth which seems to have got out of control and they are currently doing lots of research to once and for all put this myth to bed!
She explained to me that the only situation where it may help is for women undergoing IVF whos hormones are out of kilter!
Don't know if that helps at all but also I have been reading up on the supplement MACA which I am going out to buy today and this is meant to be a fertility wonder and will even out hormone levels oestrogen levels and hopefully prevent miscarriage so it claims!!
Xx

Ooh thanks for that babydust, so progesterone doesn't help? I'm sure I have read that some ladies' doctors have put them on progesterone though.....hmm maybe thats not for preventing mc though. And I will have a look into that MACA too, cheers xxxxx

Thanks for the replies ladies,

I've not actually had a miscarriage nor have i gotten pregnant up to now either unfortunately, The reason I ask on this thread is because I have PCOS and there seems to be a much higher rate of miscarriage in women with pcos, i think that is due to the low progesterone in the second half of the cycle.

I thought perhaps some of the ladies on this thread may have used the progesterone cream in order to prevent miscarriage, though there seem to be so many conflicting views about it.
I've bought a DuoFertility monitor to track if/when i ovulate and started on soya isoflavones day 4-9 to see if it helps with the ovulation, i then wanted to add the progesterone cream from ovulation to either (hopefully) pregnancy or the beginning of my menstrual cycle.

Here's a couple of snippets of positive info i found that made me think about getting the progesterone cream

"Supplements of natural progesterone are sometimes prescribed as a fertility treatment or to assist in reducing the risk of miscarriage. This is found in the form of a cream that is rubbed into the abdomen and thighs or else it arrives as a vaginal suppository or an injection (tablets don't work very well)"

"What does progesterone do?
Helps to regulate the menstrual cycle.
Prepares the lining of the uterus for implantation.
Keeps the lining of the uterus thick which is necessary for a successful pregnancy.
Produces a rise in temperature after ovulation, which remains until menstruation occurs.
Creates a nutrient rich environment for the baby by increasing glycogen and arterial blood to the lining of the uterus.
Keeps the uterus from having contractions.
Causes the cervix to thicken and create a mucous plug which prevents bacteria from entering the uterus"

Also if you have a read through some of the ladies stories on this site, there are so many success stories,

Have a look if you get chance and let me know your thoughts..

Babydust, I'll have a read up about MACA also and see what its all about, thanks for suggesting it :0)

Thanks again for the messages
