I have been thinking and googled a lot but had lots of different answers.
While your having the section done "elective" if you got really nervous and pancaked a lot what would happen would they give you someone for your nerves? Only asking as I'm due to have a section soon and so very nervous about the whole thing. I do not want to be put to sleep during the procedure as I want to see LO born.

My OB told me that the anesthesiologist can give you anti-anxiety meds through the IV if necessary. I'm not sure if you have to request them first, but I already have. I know I'll need them.

Ahh that's reassuring thank you!

I had my second my ELCS after my first came via EMCS. I would reassure you that it's perfectly normal to be nervous! Even though I had done it before I was still nervous. The staff will calm your nerves and talk you through everything. One bit at a time. Good luck x

The anesthesiologist stood by my head and talked to me the whole time. He put stuff into my IV multiple times - mostly because my BP kept dropping - but he also gave me something for nerves. (He gave me something before the section started, as well.)

^this^ my anesthesiologist was by my head the entire time, talking to me and trying to calm me down...even with my husband right there as well. This is my second section, and even knowing what to expect, i was shaking like a leaf the entire time, and i dont even know why! my nerves i guess! i didn't get anything for anxiety...but i did for nausea, maybe they didn't want to overmedicate me, and figured talking to me helped enough.

The worst part is the waiting to go to theatre - once you're there and section is happening the nerves seem to vanish. Shaking during and after section is normal and apparently due to the spinal meds. I think I'd stopped with the shakes by the time I left recovery and went back to the ward xx

The anesthesiologist stands behind the bed at your head and keeps an eye on the machines you will be hooked up too. I think they gave me an injection for everything!

When i said i had a sore head because of my blood pressure dropping i got a jab, felt sick i got a jab lol. They really keep an eye on you. When you get put in recover you will propery start to shake, your whole body shakes and slowly the feeling starts to come back to you feet and legs. The shaking doesnt last long.

You will also have a catheter put in to collect urine and an IV drip. They are usually both taken out later that night.

I was shaking the entire time and for about an hour afterward. That was really stressful for me. I might ask for anti anxiety meds next time!

I was on magnesium sulfite to prevent seizures (Pre eclampsia, BP 185/112 night of birth), I had no idea it was a kind of sedative, and was BEGGING for sedation (Surprise emergency c section at 1 am a month early, after 12 days in the hospital trying to make it to term) They said the minute LO was out they would sedate me, but not before. probably because with the mag, it would have been too much? Not sure. I was terrified, but OH was right there with me and it all worked out OK. I have had several surgeries before too, just terrified at the prospect pf being awake.

They had me so doped up on medications that I do not remember hearing my daughter cry for the first time or any details of her being born. Not happy with that experience and it has given me resolve to NOT have another c-section this time around.

Seemed like the anesthesiologist wanted to keep me loopy, DH said he was pushing something as often as possible.

I was given a gas through a mask because I started panicking slightly lol. It was very relaxing. I ended up shaking for like two hours after the csection though which sucked
