Any one shed some light on this.
I had it last week and it lead to a lumpy tender breast, same again today, other boob though, but still becoming engorged.

Is this a blocked duct? I'm treating it with hot compresses, expression and feeding from it.
Any other advice?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, could well be a blocked duct hon and if it is, sounds like you're doing all the right things. Just keep an eye on it to be sure it doesn't get worse, I had read somewhere that the white lump can mean thrush. It didn't for me but just something to be aware of :hugs:

I get exactly the same hun, it is a sucking blister on the nipple and every time I get it I get a blocked duct under neath so my boob gets lumpy and engorged quickly. It feels tender like bruised. It goes away after a couple of days but I have to make sure that Hannah keeps feeding on that side.

Thank you for your replies. Feeding Grace as I type, she's being very fussy, maybe the flow isn't as good because of the blockage.

Try massaging your boob, as you're feeding, inwards towards the nipple where the white bit is. It sounds like a blockage, and it needs clearing before it gets worse. Also try massaging your boob in the bath, that can help sometimes. Can you feel any lumps in your breast? And do you have any tender red patches? That would be the duct where the blockage is, which is where you need to massage.

You're quite right the flow might not be as good because of the blockage. I remember with my daughter when she was about a week old, she was feeding and feeding off my sore boob, and not getting anything out. When I gave her my other boob, she was ok.

Eventually the problem will sort itself out, you need to hang on in there - I know that's hard, so big hugs :-)

Thanks,
I'm beginning to get a bit peed off with it, this is the 3rd time in under a week. What could be causing it?

It's either because your latch isn't quite right, or it's just that you're still 'settling' because it's still such early days.

Is Grace's mouth as wide open as it will go when she latches on?

Try not to worry, eventually if the problem is the latch and you don't manage to sort it (I didn't!), it will sort itself out as she grows bigger (and her mouth gets bigger). It's still such early days, you're doing really well :-)

Does it definitely look like a skin blister? Sometimes oral thrush in you LO can be passed to you and can leave you with white spots on your nipple. Have you checked you LO's tongue for white patches?

:)

Is it like a blister? You can pop it with a sterile needle and the relief afterwards is supposed to be unreal. All of the blocked milk will pour out.

It's not really a blister, just like a white paste in a pore. IYKWIM.
Boob is better this morning, a hot bath, going to sleep with a hot compress on it seems to do the trick.
I do think it is a latching problem, grace rarely gapes really wide and often takes ages to feed. I am sure we have an ineffective latch but when midwives and HV have seen me feed they are not concerned. I'm encouraged by hellohefalump's comment about the latch improving as she gets older. I really want to carry on breast feeding as I think it is the best for Grace and easier than making feeds up.
Thanks for all your replies.
