Who will be giving you away? and does anyone know why we do the whole giving away thing in the first place?

my father died when I was 13 so hopefully my mum if not then noone

My Dad is for obvious reasons although sometimes i wonder if he is worth it.

Giving Away the Bride

The tradition of the father giving away his daughter has its roots in the days of arranged marriages. Daughters in those times were considered their father's property. It was the father's right to give his child to the groom, usually for a price. Today a father giving away his daughter is a symbol of his blessing of the marriage.

my dad partly cos the whole tradition side but also cos he is my hero we nearly lost him in 05 so it means a lot he will be my side

My dad died when i was 16..........i asked my granddad but cutting a long story short he cant do it now (very complicated)

i have to ask someone else and i dont know who......... possibly an uncle.... somebody suggested asking my 14 year old nephew but i'm not sure about that.

P.S i have 12 days to sort this out LOL ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I'm having my mum AND stepdad walking me down and giving me away.
I haven't spoken to my dad for 13 years. My mum is my hero and my stepdad is amazing, having taken on me and my sister to be with my mum. He made us a family again so I'm over the moon that he and mum will both be able to do it.

I'll hopefully be having my dad but he's very ill atm and may need a major operation before the wedding so there's a possibility that either he wont make it thru the op, or he'll be too sick/weak to come all the way from Wales :( My mum died 6 years ago and my only sibling (my brother) died just over 5 years ago and I'm not overly close to any other people in my extended family, but I'll probably ask my Aunt on my mum's side as I've stayed in touch with her thru the years.

 Mynx thats so sad just want to give you a :hugs:...........hope all goes well with your dad xxx

I've never been close to my father & he hasn't been the best dad. He lives in a different state & I'll invite him but I'll be having my brother walk me down the aisle.

My mum, she bought me up (on her own!) so i thought she should be givin the right to walk me down the aisle! My dad isnt comming and we havnt spoken in years which is sad but its his loss!! xx

My mum is walking me down the aisle as she has brought me up and deserves to 'give me away'. My Dad isn't even invited to the wedding, that's how good our relationship is!

having my dad give me away, one of the more traditional things in our wedding lol

I'm having my 15, she will be 16 at the time Daughter walk me down the aisle.

I'm not on good terms with my Father so wouldn't want him to!
