Is everyone having the whooping cough vaccine? It wasn't around when I was pregnant with my daughter and I'm abit dubious to it being new out and worry there isn't that much info on it... I'm really in 2 minds, I know whooping cough is on the rise and it protects baby for the 1st 6 months but then what if it causes problems to the unborn baby!? I only have 4 weeks to decide as they do it at 28 weeks.

I'm definitely having it, I couldn't live with myself if I didn't and then lo caught it x

I am having it, my little brother caught whooping cough as a new baby because he was too young to be vaccinated and he ended up in hospital and he nearly died we are very lucky to have him here today! And hes had a weak chest all his life, so that decided for me, iv seen the photos of him in hospital with tubes up his names looking so ill, whooping cough is awful

They start it at 28 weeks but you can have it up to 36 weeks (at my surgery anyway) so if you need a bit longer to decide that's OK, don't feel rushed. I'm having it, I had it with my DD but not with my son (nearly 4) as it wasn't offered then. My LO's have their jabs at 8 weeks which includes the whooping cough vaccine so for me having it while I'm pregnant doesn't feel much different, and from the research I've done I feel comfortable having it, but it is definitely a tough decision. I think all you can do is do your research, ask questions and if you don't feel happy, look at other things you can do. A friend of mine (she's in the US) didn't want the jab whilst pregnant but vaccinated her LO at a few weeks old (I think 8 weeks like over here) so she stayed home with him until he's had his jabs and only had family/friends to visit if they got immunised first.

It wasn't offered when I had my son so didn't have it that time but I'm having it this time. Like others have said I would be so upset if baby caught it knowing I had been offered the vaccine and didn't take it. My friend had it with her pregnancy and her little girl is just fine x

I had it with my son he is perfectly fine and I will be having this time also my brother caught whooping cough when he was young and not risking it especially with having winter babies

Had it with my second child =) It did make me feel a bit crappy after with flu like symptoms but its worth it =) I nearly died from whooping cough when I was a baby xx

I'm going to have it, I haven't done much research but my doctor explained how bad whooping cough is so I decided from then I was going to get it

I feel more relieved reading that everyone else is getting it done, I've tried doing more research and it says there is no research to show it causes harm so I think I will go for it. x

I'll be getting it sometime after 30 weeks for sure!

And welcome BrownEyeGirl! You'll find everyone here is really nice. :)

Get the vaccine!!! I say this because I had Whooping Cough when I was eight and was very sick. It also left me with bronchial problems I still suffer from. It makes you very very ill!!!

I think I am definitely going to get it now.. my daughters friend at school had whooping cough a few months ago, and shes been vaccinated! x

I had it when pregnant with DD and she was perfectly fine. I will be having it again x

I heard it only protects for the first 8 weeks.
I had it with both my boys and apart from a sore arm had no problems, will more then likely have it again this time.

Hi:) the vaccine pregnant women are offered only protects the baby until 8 weeks my MW said, and then the baby will be given one at 8 weeks.

Whooping cough is very serious, my MW said she's only seen 1 case of it in 30 years though.. and there are risks associated with any vaccine so it's weighing up the pros and cons.

Im generally anti vaccine anyway from personal views and research (came across a great article https://www.vaccineriskawareness.com/Why-I-Don-t-Vaccinate-My-Children ) which tipped the scales for me. It's something me and OH have to continue doing research in so we have more knowledge, because the health workers make you feel like crap if you don't vaccinate! :(

At the end of the day it's a very individual choice and not one to be taken lightly either way. We just want the best for our little ones x

I've had it, had a sore am for a couple of days but nothing else, it actually protects against polio, diphtheria and tetanus as well as whooping cough. I had whooping cough as a healthy adult last year and was so ill, rates have gone up recently so it's not worth taking that risk with your baby's life. The vaccine has been used in the U.S. for quiet sometime and vaccines are monitored very closely these days so the risk from the vaccine is tiny especially compared to the risk from the diseases.I work with the people who recommend whether vaccines should be introduced on the nhs (at considerable cost, so decisions are not made lightly) and I strongly recommend it.

I had it last time (it had just been introduced) and I wouldn't hesitate to get it again this time. Whooping Cough shouldn't be taken lightly, I think sometimes it is due to it's name.

I would get the vaccine. I was going to have it but became sick in hospital. Had to wait until hundred percent better before could have it. ..booked it in for today. . But now I have to have my baby Monday is completely pointless. At least over summer I won't be taking the kids to all the playgroups so won't be having to many risks
