just thought it might be nice to share your motivation for BFing

for me i always said i would FF until i was in 3rd tri, mainly cos i heard that BFing gives u saggy boobs lol and i was too young for saggy boobs :dohh: but then i heard that its the whole pregnancy thing that does that so i thought oh well if it is gna happen anyway i may aswell BF lol

i did really love the idea of not having to lug bottles everywhere and to not have to faff with sterilisers (even though i actually do lol, i just thought i wouldnt :dohh:)

and the last reason is a bit selfish lol, i wanted to be the only one to feed her, well the only one capable of producing the milk anyway, i have let OH give her some expressed in a bottle just cos its nice to feed her and i thought he should be let in on it haha, ive not let anyone else feed her though and im not planning on it, i dont get on with OHs family anyway and i dont want them sharing in our special relationship with our daughter cos theyre cranks lol

i dont know why im so determined to only BF her (as in no formula at all even when shes weaning) i like things to go perfectly if i have set my mind to it, im a bit OCD that way lol, i know that if i did end up FF her i would regret it for the rest of my life

so thats my story, why do you BF?

x

I'm too lazy to formula feed

For me I had a really strong desire to BF. I guess it was instinct or something. I liked feeding Niamh myself, and having that time to myself. If I set my mind to something, then I pretty much do everything short of moving heaven and earth to get it.

I breastfed partly because I'm too disorganised to deal with having to wash and sterilise bottles and remember to pack everything I need for a day out as it is without having to remember formula etc. as well! And because I loved it...I loved the closeness (I'm sure I would have had that if I bottle fed too but I was selfish and loved the fact that I was the only one that had it unless I expressed ). It was also my time to sit down and spend with Sam, as the rest of the time he won't sit still for more than a few seconds. And also because formula is so expensive  ...I've only just realised how much it costs now that Sam's having his growing up milk because he seems to be so disgusted by cows milk! And that's only one cup a day!

I miss breastfeeding now :( x

To me it's to give my little man the best start in life. (and to get my shape back quicker) :) Also I loved the fact that I was the only person who could provide Just what he needs and when he wants it.

Great question!

I dont know! I was gonna say because I am lazy!!

I just know that from the day I got my :bfp: I wanted 2 things more than anything.

1. A birth that didnt involve an epidural!
2. To BF for longer than I had with my first (6 wks)

I am pleased to say I got both my wishes. :smug:

At first it was all about my massive desire to do better than I did last time. Now I want to get to 6 months because I remember thinking WOW when I saw tickers with 4/5/6 months plus BFing. And lastly, like Rafwife, I am a lazy bitch and it does my nut in sterilising 1 bottle a day and the breast pump. :dohh:

Oh and of course because I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!

For me it wasnt an option to ff it didnt cross my mind and it just came so easy. Im also way to lazy to ff sounds like hard work lol. My final reason for breastfeeding is it keeps me slim i eat what i like and it keeps the weight off awesome lol.

Forgot to add as well that i dont want anyone else capable of feeding my baby esp not my mil!!!

Oh...and forgot about getting back into shape without diet or exercise as well! So glad I've got another one in there to use up all my extra calories now I'm not feeding Sam any more  x

Forgot to add as well that i dont want anyone else capable of feeding my baby esp not my mil!!!

Me too!! It was so good to get visitors mucky paws off her in those early weeks and I can get her back off the MIL when she's doing my head in too!!

I *hate* steralising a breast pump, so I hardly ever use it. I'd be shit at having to do loads of bottles

hehe im glad everyone else is as selfish as me  it must be a mammy thing lol, i will really miss it when i stop BFing her, i love watching the side of her face when shes feeding off me :cloud9:

i must admit i dont think the sterilising bit would bother me, we do it every night before bed and its not that much of a hassle but then i only have breast pumps ( i have a manual and an electric that i use lots ) then about 12 dummies and lids lol, two little medicine bottles, lids for my breast pump bottles and one big bottle for if i do manage to express

i dont even think my steriliser would FIT 6 bottles plus all of that

I never even thought about it to be honest, I felt it was the best thing for my baby and would be happy in doing it for as long as possible.

For me, it was always a case of wanting to BF. I was open to FF if necessary, but BF is simply something I always wanted to do when I became a mum. I love the closeness with Alyssa and love the feeling that she's thriving because of milk I produce for her :)

When I had my first it never even crossed my mind to FF....things happened and by 1mo he was ff though, my milk had dried up. It made me even more determined the next time for a few reasons

1. It's the best, and my baby deserves the best haha
2. The bond
3. I'm for AP all around and that's one of the "parts" of AP
4. Just all of the benefits, antibodies, higher iq, it's made specifically for them, its exactly what they need....perfect all around.

Never considered ff, never bought any bottles just in case when i had baby number 1. A little naive i hear you say:dohh:
Its convenient, free, i believe best for baby ( waits for outrage!), love the bond and seeing their little face look up at you.

I think my motivations were also a little selfish.

Number 1 reason i thought it would be the best start for her and when possible i want to give her the best, even if she doesn't go to private school....lol !

I thought it would help me loose weight and i didn't want anyone else to feed her, i didn't want to be pressured into leaving her some place overnight so that hubby and i could "get a break".

Laziness for sure, i totally can not be bothered to clean and sterilise bottles etc every day, hence why she has had a bottle maybe twice in all of 8mnths!

No-one i know has ever b/f for very long so i was very determined to do it for at least 6mnths.

After she was born i thought it would help with us bonding after the birth.

Beacause i LOVE IT!!

From day one i wanted to do it and was determined to go to at least 6 months.

Also after a really tramatic birth and emergency C section i was determined to do it no matter how hard and how difficult i was. (great excuse to sit on sofa for hours on end)
