Why do you feel movement earlier with subsequent pregnancies?

Hello :)

Ive read that it's because you know what the movements feel like so what to look out for, but there is no way I could have missed the movements I'm feeling now. Last time I felt nothing until 18+6, this time I started feeling movement just after 15 weeks... My placenta has been to the back both times (posterior?!)....

Just wondering!!

Xxx

They say its because you know what you're feeling for this time whereas first time round most women dont notice the flutters or are unaware that its baby! :)

Also that your muscles are 'laxer' I think!

I was told by my midwife that although you know what the movements feel like second time around, it's more to do with the fact that your muscles have already been stretched before and so stretch much quicker and easier with subsequent pregnancies.

^ I think that's why, but for some reason I felt movement later this time. 18 weeks with no1 and nothing I was certain about until 20 weeks this time.
I'd love to say it was because I've obviously got really tight tummy muscles....!

Lol, I think that is definitely the reason!!

Thanks for the info girls, that makes lots of sense about the tummy muscles!

:)

I don't know, but I'm 17+ weeks with #2 and still not feeling a thing. I felt DS very early (like around 14 weeks), so I'm kind of nervous to not feel movement yet with this one...

I have felt movement now & again but usually when laying down with my bump pillow.. now I know why.. on every scan our little lady is so sleepy and lazy! She's just chilled out.. hope she's that way after birth lol

Also my placenta is at the back

Am sure everything is ok, feeling movement earlier second time round is just a general rule & there's bound to be loads of exceptions. Maybe you've got a girl this - a ballerina not a footballer (just to stereotype before they've even arrived! Xx

ive had flutters but no kicks at nearly 19wk, i felt my son at 16wk and proper kicks by 18wk

Okay, thank you for sharing...I am feeling a little better about not having felt much because i THINK over the weekend I started to feel more movement. I told my husband that feeling the baby move is like looking for a shooting star...when you see one it goes so quickly that you aren't 100% sure you actually saw anything, and when you are looking for one and waiting to see one you NEVER see any!
