Why log data?

Hello everyone! I'm new here, have just been stalking the posts here 👀

But I've decided to join 😘

So my question is... Why log data if I'm BD'ing every day? I've only been ttc for 2 cycles now, and I have been logging my data. But it's really stressing me out, I took 9 pregnancy tests the first go round. Quite simply? Why log data? I have fresh semen deposited daily?

Hello and welcome :)

What kind of data do you mean? Like symptoms? Temps ? Cervical mucous? I do it to help me know where I'm at in my cycle and help me notice patterns so I know when the best time is to BD and when to test.

Husband and I struggled with infertility for over a year after going through a late term loss. We ended up with a specialist.

The first thing my obgyn wanted to do was track my ovulation. I used the app Clue and ovulation sticks. 1. to make sure you are having sex at the right time (even if you do it all month long - really there are 3-5 days to really focus on) 2. to make sure you are ovulating each month, as that can be an issue for some.

I didn't do all the temperature logging and such, mine was pretty basic, but it did keep my cycle in check for me.

Yea, like I use the Ovia app, and I log everything but my temps. I find I'm obsessing over it. And I guess I just don't get the point? Isn't it easier to just BD all the time? Or am I missing the golden info somewhere?

I've only had accidental pregnancys so this is all very new to me :(

Well if its driving you crazy and you've had luck without it,maybe you don't need to do it. :) I think some women just like to be aware and in control, while others like the previous poster have struggled with infertility, so tracking is helpful for that. But if you're just wanting to BD and let it happen when it happens, nothing wrong with that! ;)

Some people say bding all the time can decrease sperm count. I don't know if that's true or not. Some people only see their DH on certain days because of work schedules, so that also needs planning. Some people just don't like BDing that much, so just want to focus on the prime days. Everyone has their ways. :)

Thank you, I guess it makes much more sense thinking of it from that perspective. I really like being active and trying and knowing what's going on but I get so discouraged. I'm in my 3rd 2 week wait. And I am looking to this app to tell me what's happening, googling every symptom and it's taken over my brain! Ugh!

We try not to BD more than once a day, and we do miss a day maybe 4 a month. He has a very healthy sex drive, and he has tons of fun, and it's no pressure for him. He's so easy going, and I am a basket case.

That's usually how it goes. And it makes sense because its actually happening to our bodies. I hope you get some good news soon :)

Thank you :)

Same to you. I'm just going to make the conscious decision to not Google, not test. Just try and enjoy.

Hey Candice, this is third month ttc for me (just got my third af 2 days ago). I was temping from cycle one and logging everything. Honestly it does become frustrating. You start to obsess about every symptom and every temperature. Charting helped me know my usual O day (19-21, which is not the magical day 14 people talk about) and to know when to expect my period. But now after i got th info I needed from charting I won't do it anymore. just BD often. Just let it happen. Lots of pregnancies end up happening like that.

Good luck

I also use Ovia and I know what you mean - because when you log something, it sometimes gives you a summary of what you've just logged might mean and it can give you false hope.

I personally haven't ever logged everything - like feelings/moods, I don't really bother with and also CM (unless it's really obvious, I don't specifically check mine).
The only thing I bother with regularly is temperature (because I like to see the overall chart) and if i have any obvious symptoms i put them in, plus if I do an OPK then I log the result.

We are now into month 7 TTC, and that has actually been quite helpful because when we start getting hopeful because my boobs hurt a week before my period is due, I've been able to look back at previous months and see that actually that has been the case before and it didn't mean anything (as I obviously wasn't pregnant).
What I'm trying to say is that as you use it for longer, it becomes useful for comparison purposes to stop you getting you hopes up over every little symptom during the TWW.
